About Jonathan

I have been tutoring since I was a high school student at an International Baccalaureate school in Florida. I took AP/IB classes in Spanish, English (Language and Composition), Biology, Calculus, American and Latin American History, and Visual Art. I scored well on all my exams and as a result was accepted to Boston University. Although I ended up majoring in Sculpture, I took many classes in Economics, Biology, Spanish, Writing, and Linguistics (obviously I had a hard time choosing what I wanted to do). I learned many things from all these subjects, but the biggest thing I learned was how to study. I honed my skills from high school and developed a great method for studying that seems pretty obvious: repetition and focus.

Although I had learned how to study for myself, I had to learn how to adjust to students needs when I became a tutor. In high school, but most prominently in college, I developed great listening skills. After only a few sessions with a student I can figure out where they are confident, where they are less sure, and how to improve their performance. I have tutored several Fischer College students through Concierge Services for Students for over two years, and I have recently been involved with Parliament Tutors. Because of my past experience as a tutor and my general drive to improve myself and others, I can guarantee dedicated, engaging, and level-headed service. I look forward to hearing from you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Tutored for over 4 years in math classes ranging from Pre-Algebra to college-level Calculus.

Biology

I have been tutoring since I was a high school student at an International Baccalaureate school in Florida. I took AP/IB classes in Spanish, English (Language and Composition), Biology, Calculus, American and Latin American History, and Visual Art. And I have tutored classes in Biology for two years and have done well on AP and IB exams (4/5 and 6/7 respectively).

Drawing

I graduated with a BFA in Sculpture from Boston University in 2014, where I underwent rigorous training in drawing. Creating images that were convincingly from the real world were heavily emphasized through exercises on scale, mark making, tonality, orthogonal lines, weight, and gesture. Later in my studies, these fundamentals were challenged in other classes that questioned drawings material, site, and duration through projects that involved torn paper, drawing on public spaces, and using the cast shadows of objects as a method of drawing.
