About Elizabeth

If you or your child are looking for extra help in a math class, you've already chosen a great strategy. A tutor is a much better approach than cramming, panicking, or trying to teach yourself calculus from Wikipedia.

I was an Assistant Clinical Professor in the School of Education at Loyola University Chicago from 2010-2012, then spent a year as an analyst in digital marketing before returning to education as a math textbook and assessment writer. I have 10 years of tutoring experience, four years of teaching experience, and many years mastering how to manage work, school, and family without letting your math grades drop.

I know that there is no such thing as easy math. But there are key approaches that will help you get further, faster. And the right tutor will help you build a toolboox of techniques to use for the rest of your math career. So I look forward to working with you one-on-one or in groups to finish your homework, study for your tests, and make math less stressful.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I have been a highly active expert in the world of standardized tests, with a focus on ACT Math. I have written and edited over 500 ACT math practice questions used by Chicago Public Schools, Teach For America, and private tutoring clients. I will teach you beyond the test content, showing you the tips and tricks to think like an ACT writer and master every question in the Math section.

Algebra 2

Algebra II is the gateway to all higher math--mastering it will give you a huge advantage for any future math classes and give you excellent confidence in your math skills. I've taught Algebra II as a foundational college course and tutored it extensively for high schoolers. So whether you are looking for someone to call whenever you have a homework question, or someone to refresh you on all the algebra and computational skills needed for Algebra II success, I can help anyone get the customized help they need to ace this class.

Linear Algebra

Linear algebra is often included as either a stand-alone course or as part of an economics course. In economics courses or applied math, linear algebra courses generally focus on matrix construction and vector operations to solve linear systems of equations. This has a wide variety of applications in optimization problems (linear programming) and solving certain differential equations.

Foundational linear algebra courses focus on vector spaces and properties of matrices, looking not just at solving systems of linear equations through row reduction but other ways to transform matrices. From my undergraduate major in pure math, I am able tutor linear algebra courses offered by a math department. Through my graduate work in applied math, I am able to tutor applications of linear algebra concepts found in economics, statistics, or other applied math fields. I have experience tutoring linear algebra as it contributes to topics covered in economics courses as well as vector calculus courses.

A wonderful help! — Elizabeth is doing a fantastic job explaining extremely complicated college Calculus. She's excellent at breaking the work down into manageable pieces, being sensitive to different learning styles, and finding ways to make it all make sense. Couldn't ask for a better tutor! ...
