Hi, my name is Lauren; I am a Certified Special Education teacher with a Master's Degree in Education. My experience is in teaching elementary through middle school special education students. Through this experience, I saw how much of an impact one can have by providing specialized time in a small group or one-on-one setting. Through this experience, I saw how much of an impact one can have by providing specialized time in a small group or one-on-one setting. In the classroom, I found it difficult to provide students with enough individualized time to make the progress I knew they were capable of accomplishing. So I decided to step out of the classroom and into my tutoring practice to help children reach their full potential. Through tutoring, I will provide specified support in a particular academic area or IEP goal(s). I also want to help parents feel more equipped to play an active role in their child's IEP process.

Common Core

I have worked with students in grades K through 8 working on Common Core strategies and material. I worked as an instructional aide for two years in middle school and high school settings to help support students in the general education environment, which exposed me to various grade levels and teaching styles. After receiving all the necessary credentials I began working as a Special Education teacher in an Elementary school. I worked as a Special Education teacher in this setting for 4 years. In the 4 years, I moved up a grade level every year with my students. This provided me with an opportunity to learn how to teach the Common Core curriculum for grades K-5. I learned that while using Common Core it is extremely important for students to learn how and why they arrived at their answers. In my tutoring, I am consistently asking my students to explain why and how we arrived at our answers. Through this practice, I have seen students become more confident when explaining their thinking because they are familiar with the terminology necessary to explain.

In this setting, my students were with me all day and went to the general education classes for a select subject matter. I am a Certified Special Education teacher with a Master's Degree in Education.

I have worked with students with various strengths and abilities. I worked as an instructional aide for two years to help support students in the general education environment. After receiving all the necessary credentials I began working as a Special Education teacher in an Elementary school. As a special education teacher I needed to adapt and customize my lessons according to the students' needs while continuing to keep the state standards in mind. This process taught me the importance of flexibility as an educator, which I believe to be a crucial part of homeschooling. Although, I have taught in the conventional schooling setting I am passionate about homeschooling as I see it as an opportunity for children to learn in a more personalized and flexible setting. I also have the understanding that homeschooling can be very similar to conventional school, but can also have many different styles and approaches such as Charlotte Mason, Montessori, Waldorf, and Unschooling just to name a few.

Great tutor for my daughter!

We've had two lessons with lauren and my daughter enjoyed both of them greatly. She looks forward to her lessons with lauren and gets very excited before each lesson. Lauren is Patient with my daughter and takes her time to explain elementary math to her. My daughter also has an I.E.P and lauren is helping us navigate that as well. We are very happy with lauren and will continue to work with her. Bryan
