Hello! My name is Kim. I just moved to Florida following a year in Philadelphia. I served as a City Year Americorps member; a volunteer position with a mission to improve urban education through focused mentorship and tutoring in math and literacy. My service also allowed me to teach math in a fifth grade setting. I finished up my year in Philly as an adult education teacher for a local non-profit, with a focus on building GED and high school equivalency skills.
I have a passion for learning and education. I know that all students learn differently, and this is where my tutoring is unique. I adapt my lessons around my students' individual goals and preferred learning styles.
I was certified as a tutor through Literacy Volunteers of Kent County, a non-profit in Rhode Island. I also tutored through Tutor Doctor of RI. My specialty was GED and all levels of test preparation. I also got the opportunity to help students who were often left behind academically due to ADD/ADHD find their true potential!
I have a long history of helping students pass the GED, improve in school and excel on standardized tests. I look forward to the opportunity to help you or your student succeed and foster a lifelong love of learning!
My approach to the SAT is on improving basic math skills, but also understanding the structure of the test itself. I believe that reducing test anxiety is key to improved exam performance.
I have experience tutoring both the GED and ASVAB. I am currently serving as a sergeant in the Army National Guard, and my ASVAB students in the past have appreciated my knowledge of their future path. If the only obstacle between you and serving your country is the ASVAB, we can conquer that obstacle together! I have helped students join all branches of the U.S military.
Thank you for taking the time to check out my profile. I look forward to hearing from you! Hello! My name is Kim. I just moved to Florida following a year in Philadelphia. Shes awesome! Super sweet and jumped right into the work. Very knowledgeable on SAT math and reading/writing sections. Whenever I was unsure of a question, she was able to help me understand after the first explanation. After only one session she knew the kind of student I was and where to help me.
Kim L. has really helped me learn a lot during our first session. She has taught me years worth of math in just 2 hours! I highly recommend Kim for anyone who is struggling and needs a tutor. She'll definitely be my tutor for as long as I need one. Thank you Kim!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I passed my ASVAB with a 98 and have been tutoring ASVAB preparation for over 3 years. My students typically go from scoring 7-20 to scoring 40-60 after 3-5 2 hour sessions. I am currently serving as a military police sergeant in the Army National Guard, and students tend to appreciate my military knowledge as well as my subject matter expertise on the test itself.
I was certified as a literacy tutor with Literacy Volunteers of Kent County in RI, with a specialization in GED. I believe that everyone has the ability to succeed academically, and understand that often adult learners have had struggles with the educational system. I shape each session around the individual student's learning style and goals to ensure rapid progress. If you don't understand something, we have all been there! I will repeat a topic until you understand it and never berate you or become agitated!
I was a copy editor (2 years) and later editor-in-chief (2 years) for my school's student newspaper. I have experience proofreading and helping with planning and structure of papers, as well. My focus is on proper grammar and spelling, but also creating a well structured, coherent piece of work.
