She came prepared with all sorts of materials as she didn't know my English level for English as second language. Then she adapted her material and worked on the things I needed. She was very friendly, fun and flexible. I learned a lot! Thank you!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught in the New York City School System for over 20 years as an elementary school teacher. I have taught grades kindergarten through 5th grade. I am especially familiar with grades 1st, 2nd and 3rd having had the most experience teaching them. I feel the early grades are the most important for establishing a solid foundation for a child's education. It prepares the child for their education later on and determines how they feel about school.
