I am a former guidance counselor currently staying as home with my children. I love working with students of all abilities and have enjoyed one on one tutoring where I am able to really work with a student on the areas which they most need assistance. My experience includes remedial instruction within the public schools as well as private tutoring in homes.
I get along well with students and they tend to warm to me. I employ fun and varied learning strategies that compliment individual learning styles. This promotes success and an overall enjoyment of learning! I hope to have the opportunity to work with your child! I am a former guidance counselor currently staying as home with my children. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a former guidance counselor and a large part of my job, especially with middle school students, was to assist students in developing the organizational skills and study skills necessary to find success in their school work. Oftentimes, a student's success can be largely hindered not by their ability but by their lack of organizational and study skills. I am able to assist students in these areas by working with them on developing a system in which they can become organized as well as identify their unique study preferences. As I work with students it becomes clear that certain techniques will be beneficial to them and others maybe not so much. I teach students to identify what "works" and implement these strategies in their every day homework and study habits. When students are aware of their own study and learning preferences they can begin to implement systems that will benefit them throughout their lives.
