Hello Future Students!
My name is Tim. I am currently a middle school math teacher. My tutoring approach is to initially assess where a student currently stands in their understanding of the subject we are working on, and develop a plan for moving forward to reach our goals. Over the past 15 years, I have spent varying periods of time tutoring and teaching students from preschool to high school age, in the areas of mathematics, reading and guitar. I wholeheartedly believe that every student can grow and learn, if only given more support (such as tutoring).
I love helping students get to the point where they fully understand the reasoning behind why a problem exists, and the best way to go about solving it. When a student finally reaches the point of understanding, it's a win for both of us! I work with students by using visual prompts, either on a whiteboard or tablet, while using prompts to allow the student to come to a point of understanding each step on their own. I believe that breaking down problems into manageable sections can help identify hangups and bring clarity in how to move forward. When we have our first tutoring session, we can discuss how the student learns best and develop our tutoring plan around the student's learning needs.
I am available mostly in the afternoons/evenings, but can arrange alternative times throughout the week if needed. Please contact me with questions or to schedule your first tutoring session!
