My name is Thelma O., I am a reading specialist. I have worked in the school system for 10 years. I worked in an alternative school for 2 years and a private Christian school for ten years. My job was to help students and to identify where weak areas were in reading. I found that most of the students missed their basic skills which were their phonics. Phonics are important because if they don't know or recognize sounds, that makes it difficult for them to read. I also focus and comprehension skills and with that I found that many can read but cannot comprehend what was read.
I have also found that many students have been misdiagnosed with ADD, ADHD when that's not the problem at all. I was trained in a program and have a certificate from the "Irelen Clinic" which is known as reading by color. Many students are seeing things happening on the pages which are there and because of that they are being misdiagnosed when the problem can be corrected simply by using lenses. I would like the opportunity to explain more in detail given the opportunity. I do have experience in private tutoring and there has been great success. I believe that every child has the capability to learn with guidance. It gives me great joy when I began to see improvement in the student and a smile come on their face that they can do it!
I would like to encourage you to contact me and see your child soar in leaps and bounds! Greetings,

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
