About Kimberley

I was a 4.0 student in college and now teach painting and other fine arts at Michael's stores. I'm also a certified Occupational Therapy Assistant with training in education for people with disabilities. I recently received a Bachelor's degree in Supervision and Management. My background was in journalism and I have worked as an independent book editor for many years.
I conducted tutoring sessions for my classmates in Occupational Therapy and developed class notes that are still in use by students today. I still serve as a guest lecturer in that program. I have helped two adults tackle and successfully pass College Algebra, and worked as a freelance writing tutor for GED students in Indiana. I'm easy to understand and easy to get along with. I truly want everyone to succeed in school and in life.

When I returned to school in mid-life, I had to re-learn College Algebra. I know how confusing that subject can be, and how to master it. Math is my favorite subject to tutor, because it is so objective.

I have a thorough understanding of human anatomy and kinesiology because of my training in Occupational Therapy. I developed Anatomy notes during my school years that are still in use today.

I worked as a newspaper editor for almost 20 years and have been a book editor for seven years. I analyze plots and upgrade word choices for a living. I understand how to create essays that are clear and compelling.

I feel it is an honor to help people learn. I'm a natural teacher. I love people and I love life. I promise our tutoring sessions will be lively, upbeat, and never boring.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Painting

I am a certified Grumbacher Fine Arts instructor with one year of experience teaching acrylic painting at Michael's stores. In the course of this work, I have taught students from age 8 to age 78. Because I am also certified as an Occupational Therapy Assistant, I have been able to adapt painting techniques for students with special needs--for example, adjusting paint brush type or grip for a child with fused digits and developing strokes that accommodate one-sided weakness that followed a student's stroke.
