I received my BS degree in Chemistry with Minors in both Math and Physics. I have had a variety of industrial related jobs including work in an Analytical Laboratory, R&D Laboratory for Texas Instruments, Applications Engineering and lately retired as Chief Scientist for a Physical Water Treatment Company. I was honored by the UNT Chemistry Department as Outstanding Alumnus of 2008. I am a member of Alpha Chi Sigma (national chemistry fraternity) and past member of the American Chemical Society and a Senior Member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. I have taught laboratory sessions while at the University and have provided training to others in both formal and informal settings throughout my career. I have served as an Assistant Scout Master and earned the Wood Badge while in Tulsa, OK. I have a love of teaching and wish to help encourage others to enjoy science and discovery both as a hobby and a profession. One of my strongest points is the ability to explain complex ideas simply.
My industrial experience provides a unique perspective for my approach to complex subjects. I try to provide many real-world examples as to how scientific information is utilized, This tends to create more interest in the students as they can see how the information we learn has very practical applications. I also spend time encouraging discovery and learning proper research methods. I believe that a key to all research is the ability to find and understand information on what has been done by others.
Now that I am retired, I can devote my time to providing inspiration and assistance to students wishing to learn more about science and scientists. I look forward to being able to talk to you further about the things we can do together to achieve your educational goals. Richard has been working with our son for a few months, we have seen a huge improvement in his motivation for school and has an A in Math!!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Algebra is an extremely useful skill that forms the basis of advanced math studies as well as many practical applications in everyday situations. I have had advanced College level math studies including Calculus and Linear Algebra. I use Algebra on nearly a daily basis.
I have an excellent background in Sales Engineering involving solving of basic chemical engineering problems in fluid flow, steam, control valves, pumps, combustion, etc. I was elected as a Senior Member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers due to my practical chemical engineering experience.
I received my BS degree in Chemistry with minors in both Math and Physics from the University of North Texas. In addition to jobs as an analytical chemist and in research, I have had extensive training as a Sales Engineer. One of the challenges of industrial sales engineering is that you must be able to explain complex processes in terms that are easily visualized by those without your technical background. I find this strength of mine is very useful when working with students.
I use Outlook all the time as my primary email program. I also use it to manage contacts and calendars.
I have installed Windows on numerous computers. I have helped manage Windows-based computers in my office. I would be what is considered a "power user."
I received a BS degree in Chemistry from UNT. Their program is approved by the American Chemical Society, so I have taken two courses in Organic Chemistry as well as the required laboratory classes in Organic Synthesis and identification of organic unknowns. In addition, I took classes in Biochemistry.
I have a BS Degree in Chemistry with minors in Math and Physics. I have a good background in microbiology, water and wastewater treatment.
