Florida State University (English Education)
Parents and Students,
I love teaching!! For the past twenty years, I have had the privilege of helping thousands of young people, from all backgrounds, reach beyond their grasp. I believe in teaching the student, not the subject. A true learning experience is the result of individual growth, which can sometimes be challenging. To achieve a successful, structured education, I believe in building a foundation of core competencies and a scaffold of new knowledge and skills. My toolbox is full of positive, motivational, and proven activities designed to assist the student as an active participant in the process.
While I am certified in English for middle and high school students, I also have enjoyed teaching History, Physical Education, Test Prep, American Sign Language and Drama. I have classroom experience with all learning levels including Gifted, A.P., Special Education and Adult Education. I also currently hold certifications in Essential Elements of Instruction and Language and Composition from The Advanced Placement Institute. I've participated in the Federal Turnaround process and earned superior ratings on the rigorous Danielson Evaluation Framework. I love football and had the privilege of coaching some of the finest young people in Florida. During my tenure, I have also been selected to mentor peer educators and student teachers. I will often request feedback to ensure a quality learning experience. While I do insist on a 24-hour cancellation policy, I offer makeup classes. Parameters for assigning homework will meet your needs and will be discussed at your free introductory consultation. I look forward to meeting you very soon. Parents and Students,

Just had the first lesson and that went fantastic. My daughter really likes Larry. He is easy to work with and explains things in a way that makes sense to her. She came home from the first lesson really excited about how it went and what she learned and, even more importantly, excited about the next lesson.
Another great session. Larry is a wonderful teacher. I believe no matter what your child's needs are, Larry can help. He has a wonderful ability to connect with students, and truly seems to have a passion for teaching. Looking forward to the next lesson.
Just had the 4th lesson and my daughter is seeing marked improvements in her practice test scores. On tonight's test, she missed only got one question wrong. Although we started tutoring to improve her ACT scores, I am also seeing an over all improvement in my daughter's writing skills. The last paper I reviewed for her, I saw an improvement in her grammar, vocabulary, and tense usage.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

As an undergraduate, I minored in Physical Education. I have been a golfer for twenty-five years and enjoy the sport very much. Although I am not a golf pro, I have given lessons and am enthusiastic about playing the sport. Golf is unique in that one's window of enjoyment does not close with age.
As an English teacher for the past twenty years, I have modeled and instructed public speaking techniques. I have designed various activities to assist young people in properly presenting information to large and small audiences. As a professional, I have had the opportunity to speak to many diverse audiences. While I was not a naturally gregarious adolescent, I have developed techniques to make public speaking enjoyable and effective.
