¡Bienvenidos! My love for helping students achieve higher grades and understand the Spanish language continues to grow as the years go by teaching in a public school. The classroom environment is difficult for many students, regardless of student ability. Curriculum pacing is fast, and the large amount of information learned does not allow many students to have full understanding of the topic. This classroom approach leaves many students needing extra help for deeper understanding.
My goal is to assist students to achieve success in the foreign language classroom and use test taking techniques that assist with stress. My tutoring approach will depend on the student's need and their learning style. I use scaffolding techniques beginning with easier material gradually moving to a more difficult level to help the student gain confidence of the material. I use visuals, practice sheets, and test the student during the tutoring session with questions to ensure understanding of the material.
I currently completed my 6th year of teaching in the public school system. As a summa cum laude graduate, past dean's list student, and board member of the honor society, I understand the amount of time and work it takes to achieve in the conventional classroom. I believe in every student being able to succeed, and hope to transmit that to your student. I am currently enrolled in a master's degree for Spanish Education to expand my knowledge and better assist the students.
I have taught mainly Spanish level 2 and have had Spanish 1 to 4 added to my experience. I am able to tutor Spanish levels 1-5. I have had many hours of free tutoring helping my own students and my colleagues' students.
I am available by appointment, and I do have a 24 hour cancellation policy with one accident at no charge :). I will travel to the home of the student. I look forward to hearing from you to help you achieve success! ¡Bienvenidos! Ms. Vernice is a patient and very instructive tutor. She has excellent strategies for teaching the Spanish language. She worked with my middle-school daughter and helped her understand the basics of the language (masculine, feminine, pronouns, etc.), and built up her confidence. She has excellent materials that teach easy ways to understand and grasp the linguistic skills. I would endorse her for every level of teaching (elementary, middle, high school and adults).
We laid out a basic game plan for working with my son to improve his comprehension in Spanish. She will be working with us regularly to accomplish our goals. I would happily recommend.
I was very please on how well Vernice was prepared during our first meeting. She did an excellent job of thinking about the situations I would potentially being using Spanish in my job. Great job!
Vernice has been very effective in getting my son prepared for his final exam with two weeks of tutoring. He has found her easy to understand in concepts of grammar, and his knowledge ramped up quickly. She has an effective and positive attitude toward teaching.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am completing my fifth year teaching high school Spanish in St. John's county. I am finishing my Master's degree in Spanish Education. I also taught elementary Spanish for 2 years in a private school in Clay county.
