As a student for many years I've learned that not everyone learns the same way, at the same pace, and that each subject has a best fit method of study. I enjoy being able to meet an individual and find the most customized learning path that adjoins things that they are interested in and their best learning method. I believe this is the surest way of any student to make sense of large amounts of information so that it allows for long term understanding, and critical thinking. I work by...
I work by categorizing information into easily memorable blocks to increase yield of information, and testing students with material-based questions to constantly challenge their retainment of information, and increase critical thinking skills. I strive to offer multiple strategies of studying such as watching animations, drawing pictures, creating flashcards, etc. so that eventually students will no longer need a tutor and will have all skills necessary to be successful on their own.
At the University of Central Florida, I was a teaching assistant in the physiology laboratory, and shortly in the anatomy laboratory as well, and was able to pick up on a lot of knowledge from both the perspective of a student and as a TA. Previously I have worked with several students in the topics of Chemistry 2, Genetics, General Chemistry and Physiology. In addition, I have worked as an online tutor for tutor.com for several subjects for over 2 years.
Finally as I have taken all courses related to Biomedical Science degree at UCF I also offer pre-course tutoring and advising in order to determine which courses work best in the same semester, and also what information is vital to being successful in certain courses prior to beginning the course including organic chemistry and biochemistry.
I have taken and received an 'A' in college level trigonometry, pre-calculus and calculus at UCF, although I do not have a degree in the field I do believe that I have enough knowledge and experience to be able to aid any student in these such courses. I believe that I have learned from Calculus the topics of algebra that are most vital to any student being well versed in order to be able to expand upon in future mathematic courses.
I recently graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Biomedical Science degree, and continue to study material from core courses taken in order to help prepare for the MCAT, and/or graduate school. I also have laboratory experience which I think has allowed me the opportunity to gain the most tangible and firm understanding of many topics of biochemistry, biology and chemistry - specifically many of the techniques and experiments often conducted. In addition, I have been a teaching assistant for the physiology laboratory at UCF under the supervision of Dr. Wilfredo Lopez Ojeda. I have always had a passion for science, and being able to help others understand and also enjoy science as much as I have come to love it.
Learning has always been very important to me and although my aspirations are not to become a teacher, I believe the best way to remain knowledgeable is through teaching. I have gained a lot of experience in my own academic career in a variety of courses and there is nothing I love more than being able to see the look on someones face when they truly understand something. I will be willing to stay up late, pull an all nighter, and anything in between to be able to assure you that I am doing everything possible to be able to help you at all times.
