Broward college (Education)
My love for teaching started at a very young age since I grew up in a family that were mainly educators by profession. As a summa cum laude graduate from Broward College, I believe that I am equipped with the necessary skills and strategies that will assist students in achieving their educational goals. I currently hold a Professional Florida Teachers certificate, certified in Elementary Education (K-6), Exceptional Student Education (ESE K- 12), with Reading and ESOL endorsements. I have had the privilege of teaching in the United States as well as in the Caribbean primarily at the elementary level. My main area of expertise is teaching Reading and Language Arts at the elementary level.
I enjoy teaching and am considered to have a caring approach and I try to make sure that learning takes place in a relaxed but studious situation. I am happy to travel up to 15 miles from my home and am currently available evenings and weekends. As a result I am willing to meet in a public place conducive to learning such as a library and will require feedback from my customers. I always have the highest expectations of pupils and always have had, even when it was fashionable for learning to be more "child centered." This is an approach I have found to pay rich dividends in terms of a pupil's academic and personal development.
I have my Reading Endorsement along with an Exceptional Student Education degree with skills and strategies to mediate, enrich, and facilitate lifelong learning.
I consider myself an outstanding reading tutor because of the ability to assess the needs of my students and tailor my lessons to accommodate the unique needs of my students. I am also a big proponent of using technology in my lessons so that students can maximize their learning. Incorporating academic games in the learning so that the students can be exposed to a variety of learning modalities such as auditory, visual, and kinesthetic. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
