City University of Seattle (Computer Systems)
I am a father of four children. My sons are currently both active duty military. Both earned their Eagle Scout awards. I worked extensively with them toward their educational goals. My eldest daughter is graduating high school this year and is among the top 15% of the class. She also is entering the Air Force. My youngest daughter is going into her Sophmore year in High School. At numerous times throughout them growing up, I played an active role in their education. My day job was working in three specific fields, 1. US Army, 2. High Technology (selling to Latin America (I'm bi-lingual in Spanish). 3. Working in Mortgage Banking with companies including GE, SunTrust, HSBC, and Bank of America.
I have just made the transition to becoming a full time Elementary school teacher. I have a deep passion for helping children achieve high goals. I take education very seriously and I have participated in many facets of Broward/Florida education. I am very familiar with Broward Virtual School as well as Florida Virtual School. I also for a time taught my daughter in a home school environment.
If you are looking for a well rounded and highly competent tutor for your child, I invite you to contact me and we can discuss your goals for your family.
I remain qualified to teach the subject of reading as a result of my passing the Florida Teacher Certification Exam in Reading. I also passed the General Knowledge test for Reading as administered by the FTCE. Outside of the testing certifications, I maintain a passion for reading. I read many books covering a multitude of subject areas. Finally, I am qualified due to my classroom experience in dealing with numerous children with varying needs.
I have passed all Florida Teacher Certification Exams for K-6 education. My ability to connect with children and assess their needs is at a high level. Math is a strong suit of mine especially since my degree is in Computer Systems and also that I have worked within the Mortgage Banking industry for many years. Because of my extensive reading, spelling remains a strong suit of mine as well. I work hard to communicate to students with whom I work to expand their vocabulary and to grasp the phonemes within the words. I focus on phonetics heavily as a strategy to improve spelling. Lastly, with regard to study skills, I emphasize the "vital" skills necessary to succeed in a standardized test environment. I create a system for students to practice standardized tests and give clues before, during, and after the test on how to improve.
Please note that in addition to the general subject areas in Elementary, I also am bi-lingual in Spanish and I have an in depth knowledge of chess tactics, strategy, chess algebraic notation, and other scholastic chess capacities. If you are looking for a tutor who has not only the desire, but the skills to help your child excel in Elementary School, I invite you to consider me for the aspect(s) you want addressed.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have passed all Florida Teacher Certification Exam tests for K-6 education. I also have been working as a teacher for the last 5 months.
