Handelsschule am Laemmermarkt (International Trade)
My name is Annette Muse, and I was born in Hamburg, Germany, where I spent most of my first 21 years (during that time I also lived in Peru for one year and learned to speak Spanish fluently). I received my High School Degree and then afterwards my degree in International Trade in Hamburg and consequently worked for a German Export Company, which also sent me to work in their branch office in Mexico City for one year. In 1992 I was recruited to work in a German NGO in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, as the Assistant to the Regional Manager. I met my American husband in Abidjan, who is a Diplomat, and followed him ever since. We were posted in Australia, Washington, Berlin (Germany) and Kenya, each time for four years. Due to my husband's assignment to the State Department's Regional Center in Ft. Lauderdale, we moved to Florida in 2010. We intend to stay here since our son goes to High School in Parkland and my husband will be retiring from the Government soon.
I became an American Citizen in 2002 but maintain close ties to my family in Germany, my cultural inheritance. We speak German at home on a regular basis, as well as English, naturally. I am also fluent in Spanish and French. I have held a number of different jobs all over the world which is why I possess a vast experience with people, different cultures, languages. While stationed in Kenya, I tutored Kenyan girls in an orphanage and taught them English. To see and hear them make progress was extremely rewarding.
I am a native German speaker. My parents are both German citizen; I grew up in Hamburg, Germany; went to High School there and received my degree in International Trade in Hamburg as well.
Even though I do not have a degree in teaching, I am confident that my German and English language skills (speaking, reading and writing) combined with my rich cultural experience make me an ideal candidate for your becoming your language tutor. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
