Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I have taught high school math and tutored numerous students in Algebra 1. I volunteer at a local high school where I assist students in Algebra 1 every week. I have a graduate degree in Math Teaching and undergraduate degree in Mathematics with a minor in Education. My approach is to identify the student's math skills including Algebra 1 knowledge and to then suggest and implement a plan to aid the student in reaching his or her goals. Whether the tutoring session involves algebraic expressions, solving equations and inequalities, graphing linear, quadratic, or exponential functions, or other Algebra topics, I have the expertise to teach and motivate, and ultimately observe the student achieve success.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

I have taught high school math and tutored several students in Algebra 2. I have a graduate degree in Math Teaching and undergraduate degree in Mathematics with a minor in Education. My approach is to identify the student's foundation knowledge including the prerequisite knowledge in Algebra 1. Then I will review prior Algebra 2 work from the student. This will lead to an implementation plan to aid the student in reaching his or her goals. Whether the tutoring session involves systems of equations, logarithms, word problems, inverse functions, trig identities, conic sections, complex number or other Algebra 2 topics, I have the expertise to teach and motivate, and ultimately observe the student achieve success.
SAT Math,

SAT Math

SAT preparation is best approached by practice. My students take practice exams from one or more of the fine preparation texts, such as Kaplan or Princeton, and I review the areas of weakness whether related to Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, or other foundation material. I also discuss test taking strategy to include careful reading of the test question, recording important information, process of elimination for multiple choices, and expected areas of knowledge. I have a Master's degree in Math Teaching. I have taught and tutored math ranging from basic skills to Calculus.

Algebra

He was very patient and help her to understand different topics. She feels now more confident to move forward with her test.

Sandra, 1 lesson with Herb

Very helpful!

Called last minute to set up an appointment because my son missed some days and needed an entire AP algebra 2 lesson before a test tomorrow. He accommodated our needs and my 16 yo son got the help he needed. He tells me that Herb explains everything so he can easily understand the concepts. Math is not his strongest subject but Herb is great with explaining everything so my son feels confident he will do well on his test tomorrow! Thank you!

Lektra, 6 lessons with Herb

Great approach, good pace.

Tomorrow we will do the rest of the topics needed, I feel more confident to tackle down the rest of the parts I was otherwise too nervous to begin.

Mateo, 2 lessons with Herb

Very knowledgeable and clear tutor

Herb taught me how to solve ACT math problems by applying algebraic, statical and trigonometric principles, as well as follow basic logical procedures that allowed me to derive correct answers on the practice tests.

Versatile, patient and knowledgable

I love that Herb takes time to assess and tailor his approach. Our son is 17, and respects his tutor, and looking forward to working with him more. We just started with Herb, but in the few sessions, we can tell he is serious about helping our son achieve his goal. Thanks, Herb!!

Excellent Math Tutor

Herb tutored my son last year as a high school junior, and again this year prepping for the ACT and SAT. My son liked Herb and was engaged in the process. Last year we saw a marked grade increase and believe he's helped my son's test scores.
