My husband loves to call me a nerd. In fact, my love for learning is so evident that I often include it in general introductions simply to get it out of the way! You will often find me on a computer learning new concepts or having discussions about new ideas in my free time. I believe that knowledge paves the way for innovation and that one can push the limits of their potential as long as they have the educational foundation and confidence to do so.
I specialize in elementary education grades K-6. I graduated Cum Laude with a bachelor's in elementary education and am currently obtaining my masters in teaching and learning. My experience inside the classroom has amplified my passion to help students outside of the classroom. Tutoring allows me to focus on areas where students a struggle the most and troubleshoot accordingly. My tutoring sessions are targeted, specific, and custom-tailored to the student. The effectiveness of this method was proven when one of my 2nd-grade students improved from a 1st-grade to a 3rd-grade reading level in less than two months. That being said, my overall goal is more than passing a test, semester, or grade-level. It is also very important for students to develop basic understandings upon which to build future knowledge.
I realize that life can be unpredictable and I have a 24-hour cancellation policy. I welcome feedback, as it is essential to improvement. Ultimately, I wish to see each child succeed, enjoy, and become confident in learning. I look forward to the opportunity to play a part in your child's success! My husband loves to call me a nerd. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I graduated Cum Laude with a bachelor's in elementary education and am currently obtaining a master's in teaching and learning at Colorado State University where classes focus heavily on the effective implementation of Common Core standards. I also gained experience teaching Common Core curriculum at Nova Blanche Forman Elementary School during my 3-month internship. It was during this time that I developed an interest in helping struggling students who tend to get lost in the hustle and bustle of an overcrowded school system. Having successfully passed all FTCE teacher certification exams, I am equipped to teach any and all aspects of elementary education. My tutoring methods incorporate backward design methods with emphasis on student-understanding rather than mere memorization. By using my focused and goal-driven tutoring techniques, students will find themselves meeting, or maybe even surpassing, their goals!
