I have taught both privately and in the classroom for over two decades. My experience in teaching privately has included teaching people of all ages and backgrounds and my classroom teaching experience has been at the collegiate level. Regarding the institutions through which I have been employed, I spent five years at Backstage Music Network teaching privately and managing the recording studio operations. I also spent nearly three years teaching privately at the Mars Music Learning Center. In the classroom, I taught audio and video production, along with other multimedia related courses at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale for seventeen years.
Through my experience, I have learned how to effectively tailor lessons to students' needs, desires and abilities. I taught in the classroom for seventeen years before returning to academia myself to complete a master's degree. Those years re-shaped my approach, from the perspectives of both instructor and student. As an instructor, I spent a great deal of time creating and collecting demonstrations which had the capacity to qualify, as well as clarify, what was often extremely subjective material. As a student, I became much more effective after having had the teaching experience. I found that being involved in student organizations and other extra curricular activities was equal in value to the classroom experience and, four years after graduating Summa Cum Laude from Florida Atlantic University, I still remain in contact with the network of fellow students with whom I had collaborated. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught music composition for 30 years. I have a master's degree in the subject and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Florida Atlantic University.
I have spent many years as a reading and writing musician, having taken and taught courses in score reading, ear training, music theory and conducting, as well as other courses which strengthen ear training. I have also spent a great deal of time transcribing music in a wide range of styles. Through experience, I have developed teaching techniques which help to strengthen students' sense of both relative and absolute pitch.
I have been teaching film for seventeen years at the collegiate level. I have become familiar with both the equipment used in shooting, as well as editing, along with the techniques involved in creating broadcast-quality picture and sound. I have also written scores for five feature-length films, samples of which are available to see and hear.
I have over three decades of experience as a performer, producer and educator in music. In 2009, I earned a master's degree with a 4.0 grade average in Commercial Music Composition and Production. My major course of study has included solo and ensemble performance, theory, composition and history, all at the post-graduate level.
I have owned and operated a recording studio for over 30 years. I have released six independent CD's and have received airplay over terrestrial, satellite and internet radio on each release. I have taught music production at the collegiate level for 17 years.
I received a bachelor's degree in Music Theory and Composition in 1987 and have been working in the field since 1982. I was inducted in Pi Kappa Lambda, a National Music Honor Society, in 1987. I also studied music theory as part of the Studio Music and Jazz master's degree program at the University of Miami, 1990-91.
I have been a pianist for 44 years. I studied classical piano with an accomplished concert pianist. As a contemporary keyboardist, I am proficient in many styles including jazz, rock, blues, pop and country in addition to classical and I am also familiar with the technical and musical aspects of MIDI recording.
I have many years of songwriting experience, both solo and collaborative, and have released three solo CD's on my independent record label. I have received reviews from, and done interviews with, internationally reputable publications. Each of these CD's continues to sell at over 45 online retailers and receives airplay worldwide. I am currently working on a fourth solo CD release and have contributed to the CD's of countless collaborators.
For 17 years, I have taught several courses in film and video production at the collegiate level. I have a video editing suite in my home studio which includes Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere, and have produced and edited a wide array of music videos.
