Dear Students and Parents,

I love to learn and I love to teach others about what I have learned. After receiving my degree in Nutritional Sciences, I was fortunate to begin my science career at the University of Wisconsin-Madison working for a well-known scientist, Dr. Merlin Bergdoll, who discovered the cause of Toxic Shock Syndrome. I sharpened my skills and broadened my knowledge in microbiology, biochemistry and biology while working there. From there I moved to Chapel Hill, working at the University under the tutelage of a well-established Psychiatrist, studying the effects of Major Depression on immune function with my research culminating in a paper presented at an international meeting. My husband and I moved to Baltimore where I worked at a pharmaceutical company studying anxiety and adrenal function where meticulous lab techniques and the generation of clear, concise reports were essential. I was also fortunate to be selected as the editor of the company's first scientific newsletter.

While raising my three daughters, I became a teacher at a private school, educating the students in anatomy, microbiology and nutrition. I enjoyed this very much and made an extra effort to make sure my students understood the material before moving on to the next subject. I was also an education volunteer in my children's school, teaching vocabulary, spelling and grammar. I organized the first ever spelling bee in the district, strictly following the guidelines of the Scripps National Spelling Bee. It was judged by the local newspaper and received regional coverage. I also organized sheep brain dissection workshops in my local middle school. I had performed many rat brain dissections at my research position in Baltimore and believe that students learning is enhanced by hands-on experience.

My preferred method of tutoring is to utilize real-life examples and hands-on experiences to enhance students learning and retention.
