Bio

My past students have had no confidence in math, have been failing their classes, and have feared their dream colleges and dream jobs were out of reach. In the past three years, I've tutored over 50 students who didn't have the confidence they needed, and I have helped them improve on average almost two letter grades.

But don't take it from me. Here are some recent students who didn't think they could do it but realized their full potential, received top scores, and finally felt secure in...

Baylee L. (Algebra 2/College Algebra), Perdido Key, FL
I wanted to be ready for college and for math that meant college algebra. I was homeschooled and nervous about a traditional classroom setting, and I also wanted to just understand math better. I knew I was behind in algebra 2/college algebra and needed to accelerate my learning rapidly. So I looked for a tutor who could find out exactly where I was stuck and begin again from there. I also hoped he wouldn't get impatient when I didn't understand something the first few times. And Reid is just that.

And it just so happened we laughed and got along very well from the start. He kept an amazing balance of having fun while learning more math. I don't recall one session where we weren't cracking up about some inside joke. He also cares about more than just doing algebra problems. When I mentioned that I wasn't sure about the requirements for Pensacola State College vs. the University of West Florida, he found the information for me and we looked at them together. His rate seemed high to me at first, until I started the lessons, and now I think he's being modest. He gives you your money's worth for sure, and then some!

I used to love math when I was younger, but in the past few years, I hated it. I didn't know what had changed until I started working with Reid. When I understood math and could do it, I enjoyed it! Thanks to Reid, I was able to understand algebra, and I began to feel like I did when I was younger: I like math again!

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

My recent Algebra 1 students came to me frustrated with their homework and failing their classes. One recent student found her homework problems too long and difficult to figure out, and her teacher wasn't any help. She was frustrated, fighting with her mom about it, and worried she was going to fail along with most of her class. When she came to me, we broke down the steps for each type of problem we were working on. Different problems required different solutions, she learned, and finally understood her linear equations problems. She was so relieved. There was nothing wrong with her, she just needed the explanations that actually worked. Although she came to me failing the class, she improved two letter grades and passed the class when most of her classmates had to take summer school. Best of all, she and her mother stopped fighting about her math homework and grades. I've worked with many students in middle school, high school, and college to better their scores and feel more confident. I look forward to helping you reach your full potential!
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

All of my Algebra 2 students were frustrated with all of the different homework problems that didn't relate to each other and were upset that their grades didn't match their efforts. One recent student just didn't understand what her teacher wanted and gave up on passing the class. But it wasn't her fault, the material wasn't explained clearly. She and I worked on identifying the different types of problems and really understanding what the all the letters and variables meant. When she focused on just her factoring problems, she did a lot better. Then when we worked on exponents and logarithms, she could focus on that material separately, and she stopped getting mixed up. Because we focused on one topic at a time, she started getting better grades on her homework assignments, and then eventually her quizzes and tests. Although she originally wanted to just take her failing grade and try to redo algebra 2 in summer school, she worked with me so that she could pass her class with a high B and enjoy her summer. I've worked with over 20 students in algebra 2 and college algebra to better their scores and feel more confident. I look forward to helping you reach your full potential!
Geometry,

Geometry

I have tutored many geometry students from public and private schools, both middle and high schools. Geometry can be difficult because the material is so different from algebra 1. I have developed a study method to help students learn the concepts, notation, and diagrams from geometry quickly and easily. I have also worked with students on learning constructions, proofs, and transformations, which are the most difficult types of problems. I have also prepared public school students for the FSA EOC and put together a review course for the test. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Prealgebra,

Prealgebra

Pre-Algebra can be difficult for students as more abstract concepts are introduced. I've worked with many students in middle school, (remedial level) high school and equivalent college courses at PSC develop the understanding of this material, and I have seen students increase in at least one letter grade after working with me. I'm happy to help students through the material and remediate if necessary. I look forward to working with you!
SAT Math,

SAT Math

When I tutor SAT Math, I offer test-specific strategies and multiple ways of approaching the problems so that students can use the method that works best for them. With less than a month of preparation, I have seen consistent increases of 50 to 80 points in the math section. Over a two-month period, I have had increases of 100 points or more. I've helped students meet their scholarship or honors program goals in a short amount of time, allow students to focus on enjoying their senior year without worrying about their test scores.

Linear Algebra,

Linear Algebra

Linear algebra is an essential subject for all quantitative fields of study. When it's introduced, though, it came seem unfamiliar and perhaps very abstract. As a math major, I've worked with both applied problems (eg. optimization, graph theory, probability) as well as abstract (eg. transformations) and proof-based courses and can help students do the same. I earned my BA from Bennington College in Vermont, and I enjoy communicating math so that it's approachable and understandable. I have worked with students ages 10-50 on areas from arithmetic up to calculus, statistics and linear algebra. I look forward to working with you!
Logic,

Logic

As a math major, I've worked both directly and indirectly with logic. I've successfully completed coursework in symbolic logic in the philosophy department, hardware logic gates in the computer science department, as well as using general ideas of logic in programming courses and set theory and proof-based math courses. I have worked with students ages 10-50 on areas from arithmetic up to calculus and statistics. I look forward to working with you!

Awesome job!

Very detail oriented and patient! He is excellent at higher ordered math. I highly recommend him as a math tutor. He is very good and I am issuing him to supplement a high school teacher who has challenges in teaching higher ordered math.
