Hello, Everyone! My name is Maygan and I'm rather excited about being a potential tutor for you! I've always loved reading, writing, literature, and all the other word-oriented work that the world of academia has to offer. I graduated from the University of West Florida in December 2013 with a Bachelor's in English, as well as a Bachelor's in Theatre, and am currently working to obtain a Master's degree in English Literature. While earning my degree, I held the non-paid, non-professional title of Proof-Reader for a lot of my friends and their friends. I am extremely passionate about literature in particular and have always wanted to help others reach the same level of love and understanding that I feel for written works.
For the younger people: One of my favourite parts about having a niece and nephews is that I was, and am, always able to have young minds to which to introduce new thoughts, new ways of seeing, and new ways of understanding. I enjoy working with children when it comes to reading and writing because children, having the fascinating imaginations that they tend to have, always breathe new life into a work for me. This not only helps to stimulate my own imagination and thought process, but also allows me to better understand the many ways in which people learn and perceive the world around them. In tutoring children, I don't just want to help them understand the present academic problem they have, I want to equip them with the tools and thought processes that will better enable them to understand and work out problems in the future. I feel that, often times, once we understand a subject, we become more passionate about learning new material in that particular area. I would love for more children to become passionate readers and writers!
For the older: I am quite tenacious when it comes to communicating a thought or concept to another person. I will try to describe a theory, or connotation of a word, or an etymological origin to a person, literally, until THEY beg me to stop trying because I want so much for people to understand what they do not (yet!) understand. I'm not sure if this stems from my own intellectual curiosity but there you have it. Whether you're having trouble understanding concepts discussed in relation to the text, needing a little help in the analytical reading department, or have absolutely NO idea how to write a paper or what to include therein, I am here to help!
Regardless of age, I just want to help people better understand anything in the areas of literature, writing, and reading. I really do love English THAT much. Hope to hear from you!
