About Laura

I am a Spanish teacher interested in teaching and/or tutoring students of all ages. I taught high school Spanish levels I-III for eight years. Recently I relocated to Pensacola, FL.

As a tutor I can help students overcome those frustrating verb conjugations, grammar structures and pronunciation issues. I've gone to great lengths to help my students understand the differences between por & para, ser & estar, and uses of the preterite vs. the imperfect. I can also help students improve their Spanish conversation and writing skills.

As a teacher I can teach students of all ages how to speak, read, and write in Spanish. Students may choose to learn the traditional way as is done in the public schools; or through a non-traditional approach that will have them speaking and using the language right away through songs, storytelling, hand motions and repetition.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

American History

Although I'm a Spanish teacher, I've helped students struggling in other subject areas, including grammar, math, and history.
I enjoy tutoring students on history because it's an opportunity bring the past to life for understanding, rather than mere memorization of dates. When we're finished, I have students retell the history we've reviewed in their own words as though they were telling a story.

Geography

For me, geography is a blast. I've always been mesmerized by maps, studying them to see where I've traveled, distances from one city to the next, and piecing countries together as though they were a puzzle. Along with geography comes a sense of climate and cultures in various regions of the world, all of which I hope to inspire students to understand.

Microsoft PowerPoint

As a teacher, I've made countless Powerpoint lessons over the years. From your basic slides with text and graphics, to adding animations, fonts, sounds and more, I can help you learn to use Powerpoint to make superior presentations.
