I have a passion for learning through music and art. My lifelong journey in teaching helps me to share with others that passion as well. I believe that if you can read, you can learn. Music and art are expressions of our heart and soul, from which passion flows from. I want to help young children to become passionate about learning.
With my degree in Early Childhood Development, I have worked in the field of early childhood education for over 20 years, both in private and public school settings. I have experience working with special needs children as I have been a co-teacher in an inclusion classroom for 6 years. I have had extensive years of vocal and piano training and performance. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
In my PreK classroom, I teach McGraw-Hill Language for Learning which is an intervention system for struggling readers. In addition to this I teach Phonological Awareness which is a complete program for developing phonological and phonemic awareness. I have been trained to teach each of these through the Bay District schools.
I have been playing the piano for over 40 years. I have taught privately on and off for 10 years. I am a director a summer music & fine arts program where I teach class instruction in piano. I teach piano with the David Carr Glover method.
In college I took 2 years of music education classes before I changed my degree to Early Childhood Development. During that time, I was train for sight singing and ear training. I have sung for over 40 years in choirs and as a soloists. I am the Director of a music and fine arts program where I teach vocal instruction.
My degree is in Early Childhood Development and I have worked in the field of Early Childhood education for 12 years, as a Child Care Director and then as a PreK Teacher in the public school system. I have worked in an inclusion classroom setting for 6 years in the public schools. I have worked with children who are language impaired, hearing impaired, ADHD, ADD and those with Autism. I have additional continuing education training in related fields, such as ESOL training, Differentiated Instruction training, Diversity in the Classroom training as well as others.
In high school and in college, I received vocal instruction privately. I have sung in choirs, church praise & worship teams, vocal solos for over 40 years. I am the Director of a summer music and fine arts program where I teach vocal instruction.
