I've also authored health articles for newspapers and magazines. I have also served as a fill-in teacher at the elementary and high school level.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have successfully completed courses in algebra, geometry, trigonometry, differential analysis, and calculus in high school and college. Algebra I is a basic building block for all of these and I am very confident in being able to tutor this.

Anatomy

I am an M.D., which covers human pathology, physiology, homeostasis, and certainly anatomy. I have been a surgeon for over 30 years, which requires a mastering of anatomy and qualifies me for an expertise in the physiologic dynamics of anatomy. I have been board certified in OBGYN, making me qualified in women's health, pregnancy, and childbearing, all of which are anatomically unique. And I have taught in medical schools and residency programs, qualifying me to tutor in all aspects of biology and physiology.

Biology

I am an M.D., which covers human pathology, physiology, homeostasis. I have been board certified in OBGYN, making me qualified in women's health, pregnancy, and childbearing. I have been a surgeon for over 30 years, qualifying me for anatomy and function. And I have taught in medical schools and residency programs, qualifying me to tutor in all aspects of biology.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have been a substitute teacher at elementary, middle, and high schools in both Louisiana and Florida for over 30 years. I have also tutored several special needs students, ages ranging from 8 to 18. My own son has cerebral palsy and is blind, making tutoring a particular challenge I was able to overcome. Because of my substitute teaching experience in public schools for at-risk students, I have extensive experience with the difficulties all children at all ages experience.

Grammar

I am a published non-fiction author for McGraw-Hill, the largest textbook publisher in the world and famous for their error-free text. During the preparation for my book, I was required to thoroughly evaluate hundreds of pages of galleys, making sure the grammar was correct, the diction was excellent, and the flow very clear. Punctuation, verb agreement, consistency of tenses, choice of mood, etc., were all important parts of this process.

Microsoft Word

I am a published non-fiction author for the pregnancy book, "The Anxious Parent's Guide to Pregnancy," published by McGraw-Hill, the biggest textbook publisher in the world. It was written on MSWORD in its entirety. I have also written women's health articles for over 20 years using MSWORD, as well as five novels.

Nursing

I am an M.D., which is part of the hierarchy of medical care. Having been in both private and teaching practices for over 30 years, I have extensive experience working with nurses. I have also been a testifying expert in medical malpractice cases, requiring a mastering of assessing and critiquing nurses' progress notes, charting, and the bureaucratic requirements of today's RNs and LPNs.

Physiology

I am an M.D., which covers human pathology, physiology, homeostasis. I have been board certified in OBGYN, making me qualified in women's health, pregnancy, and childbearing, all of which are physiologically intensive. I have been a surgeon for over 30 years, qualifying me for an expertise in the physiologic dynamics of the living organism. And I have taught in medical schools and residency programs, qualifying me to tutor in all aspects of biology and physiology.

Prealgebra

I have an extensive educational background in math, having completed courses in algebra, geometry, trigonometry, differential analysis, and calculus. Prealgebra is a basis for all of these and therefore poses no difficulty in my tutoring it.

Proofreading

I am a published non-fiction author for McGraw-Hill, the largest textbook publisher in the world and famous for their error-free text. During the preparation for my book, I was required to thoroughly proofread and evaluate hundreds of pages of drafts and galleys, making sure the grammar was correct, the diction was excellent, and the flow very clear. Punctuation, verb agreement, consistency of tenses, choice of mood, etc., were all important parts of this process, as well as the logical flow of the material presented.

SAT Reading

I am a published author and have been writing all of my life. To write successfully for any audience requires one to know the interaction with the words--reading. A reader must be able to follow the logical flow of a passage and read "between the lines," which are expected talents sought by such tests as the SAT. I will tutor to evaluate passages. The difference between reading and evaluating is like the difference between hearing and listening. A reader being tested needs to know how to "listen" to a passage.

SAT Writing

I am a published non-fiction author for McGraw-Hill, the largest textbook publisher in the world and famous for their error-free text. Correct grammar, as well as clear and concise diction were expected according to the publisher's high standards. Punctuation, verb agreement, consistency of tenses, choice of mood, etc., were all important parts of this process. Most important was a logical flow of the material presented, as the book needed to be understood by a spectrum of readers from uneducated to very sophisticated readers.

Study Skills

I have raised five children (one, special needs), three nieces, and four foster children, and I have worked with them all through their elementary and high school years. I have established study routines unique for each of them, and they have all done well. I have also been an educator, mentoring medical students through difficult subjects. I have used sequence interrelationship, mnemonics, and cause-and-effect strategies for them to great advantage.

Vocabulary

I am a published author of non-fiction, having written for McGraw-Hill a women's health book that needed to be understood at several educational strata. This meant writing the same thing repeatedly with word choices that would be meaningful to each, without seeming repetitive and not interrupting the flow of the narrative. Diction is important in all writing, and word choice is important. I get this and am very experienced in this concept.
