About Gail

I have been tutoring students in County School system, as well as private elementary schools in the county for the past three years. My experience has primarily been with students from kindergarten through grade 6 with basic subjects. I have tutored math, science, reading and writing. I also assist with organizational skills. I have provided enjoyable educational experiences with students in a variety of ways, including working with students on computers.

I was as a tutor for a private school for Dyslexia for 2 years, and provided classroom instruction. I received multi-sensory specialized training while there to assist students with comprehension and retention in reading, writing, and math. I have provided tutoring in study skills and test-taking preparation.

Summary of Experience: I have over ten years of teaching experience with public school system children, and students from the elementary private schools. Five years of my experience has been as a School Psychologist, grades k-12 providing psychological testing.

I have served as a psychological consultant and made recommendations to a local mental health clinic and to the school system. I was an Elementary Guidance Counselor in Florida.

I inspire students in making learning enjoyable!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

I have relevant experience teaching/tutoring students with ADD/ADHD for five years. I was a Certified Teacher Specialist for ten years for the county school system. I also taught and tutored in a special school here in Pinellas County. Additionally I evaluated students from k-12 via psychological testing. These tests included achievement tests and intelligence and personality assessments.

Dyslexia

I have been trained at the DePaul School for Dyslexia in Clearwater, Florida. I also taught there for a year. In addition, my past five years of experience has been with the county public school system. I've also tutored dyslexics from childhood to adulthood with several tutoring agencies and private schools. I have enjoyed tutoring elementary students and middle school students in reading, writing, and phonics.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have tutored with agencies through Pinellas County School System, grades k-6, and have a background security clearance which is current. Smart Start Tutoring and A quantum Leap were the agencies I worked for. Each contract was for a year. Following that, I worked last year with Tutor Doctor. I gained educational material through the first two agencies.
I maintain current, age/grade appropriate educational material.

Handwriting

While working for the DePaul School for Dyslexia, I received good training in handwriting. I assisted students with appropriate material for such learning activity. It was very rewarding for the student, as well as myself, to see their legibility improve!

Phonics

While working at DePaul School for Dyslexia, I tutored elementary and secondary students in Phonics. I also taught it in classrooms while there. I received specialized trained while at this school. Additionally, I taught phonics with my recent past agencies, and still have age-appropriate educational books.

Special Needs

I have been trained and have experience in administering psychological evaluations. I was a Certified School Psychologist for grades k-12 for ten years.
My experience at the DePaul School included tutoring students with special needs on a one on one basis. I found the work very rewarding and the students enjoyed and benefitted from the specialized attention and learning.

Study Skills

My experience includes having been a School Psychologist. I enjoy assisting students with improving their study sills. Included in their preparation is organizational skills.
