About Anna Marie

Hello! I am currently a middle school ESE teacher in Hillsborough County, and I have been teaching for five years. I am certified in ESE (PK-12); Elementary (K-6); Middle Grades Science (5-9); and Middle Grades Social Science (5-9). I also hold Reading and ESOL endorsements. Prior to becoming a teacher, I worked in the mental health field with students who had behavioral disabilities and mental health needs. My tutoring sessions are student-centered and research-based. I incorporate a student's interests as much as possible, and I use only research-based strategies that have been proven to be effective in making students successful. I am passionate about all students receiving a fair chance at being successful, and I enjoy thinking outside-the-box to make that happen!

I am certified to teach Elementary Education in FL, and completed my Masters degree internship in a self-contained elementary classroom. I spent the first couple years of my professional career working with elementary-aged students with behavioral disabilities and mental health needs, and I have experience tutoring students in grades 1-3.

I have a Masters degree in Exceptional Education from the University of South Florida. I've spent most of my professional career working with students with learning and behavioral disabilities, and I've been an ESE teacher in Hillsborough County schools for 5 years.

Please contact me if you have any questions, or if you'd like to schedule a tutoring session!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

I am FL state certified to teach Exceptional Student Education, and I've been employed as an ESE teacher for the past 5 years. Prior to teaching, I worked with students with various mental health needs, including ADD/ADHD. I believe in lessons that include various learning modalities, including kinesthetic - commonly preferred by students with ADHD.

Dyslexia

I am FL state certified to teach Exceptional Student Education, and I have been employed as an ESE teacher for the past 5 years. Additionally, I have a Masters degree in Exceptional Student Education from the University of South Florida. I've worked with students with dyslexia and I've attended several trainings on the topic. Most recently, I attended a seminar led by Susan Barton, a well-known dyslexia expert. I am currently looking into becoming trained as a dyslexia screener.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am FL state certified to teach Elementary Education (K-6th), and I have been teaching 6th grade for the past 5 years. My Masters degree internship was spent in a self-contained K-3 classroom. Additionally, I currently tutor 3 students entering grades 2 and 3.

Study Skills

This year will be my 5th year teaching a study skills class in my school. In the class, my students focus on how to check their grades using the district's online platform, communicate with their teachers, and request assistance when they need it. They've learned various note-taking strategies compiled by the CRISS and AVID programs. My students also learn how to record their daily assignments, map out their study time, and use skills such as cover, copy, compare; flash cards; and mnemonics to assist them with studying.
