Education makes such a positive difference in an individual's life, and building the foundation for a child provides the basis for future success and happiness. I have attended schools in three countries; Canada, Denmark and the United States and this has exposed me to different types of teaching methods and what works best.
Due to many moves I have attended eight Universities and completed a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, a Master of Science in Clinical Mental health and am currently pursuing a graduate certificate in Cognitive Neuroscience. As a child I excelled at Math but always struggled with reading. This caught up with me when I began my Bachelor studies, however I was determined to overcome the challenge and by the time I graduated could read and comprehend faster than I ever imagined. From that point I have made education a life long pursuit and passed that on to my children. Two of my three children have Tourette's disorder which required me to understand special needs, and was the impetus for my mental health clinician studies.
My goal is to help your child(ren) in whatever capacity they need to improve their academic performance. I also understand how this can build confidence in a child, and the delicate balance required when interacting with them if they struggle. This position is very rewarding as I see children develop the academic skills they need to enjoy learning and do well at school.
I am very strong in Algebra and find that many students struggle with these concepts. As a high school graduate in Canada years ago I was enrolled in the Math concentration which included Algebra, Calculus and Trigonometry in grade 13 (now first year of University). In addition I also took Algebra, Business Math and Statistics for my Bachelor of Business Administration degree.
As a Mental Health Clinician and coursework in Clinical and Cognitive Neuroscience I have a scientific understanding of childhood mental health disorders and how they impact learning and development. I have worked with children who fall on the autism spectrum, Aspergers, ADHD, Tourette's, and other anxiety or psychotic disorders.
My methods are very positive, and you will see overall improvement in all facets of the child's life. Whether you have a child who just needs a little help, or one with special needs I would be delighted to teach and encourage them. Education makes such a positive difference in an individual's life, and building the foundation for a child provides the basis for future success and happiness. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
