George Washington University
Hello potential students and parents!
I have a BBA from George Washington University, and have just finished taking the MCAT- I know, "Business? How the heck does that correlate to medical school?" well it's a long story that I'd be happy to tell in person! What's most important is I am well-versed in a wide array of subjects and would love to teach any and all of them.
About me: I am in my mid-20's and plan to be for the next 10-15 years. I am fluent in French and Spanish. I am a sucker for YA novels and the classics. I played piano for 6 years. I swam competitively for about 10 years or so. While I absolutely love to sing, I'm not too great at it. I recently started volunteering at a hospital in their emergency department and I am absolutely loving it.
I was a TA at an inner-city elementary school in DC for 3 years, assigned to K-2. I've been tutoring for the last 10 years. I'm super expressive so if I'm speaking too energetically- let me know and I will pull back ASAP! Don’t ever feel embarrassed about a question you want to ask or if you feel awkward about an answer you've given me because I have probably said something a million times more awkward or embarrassing in the past 24hrs. I tend to make really strange analogies to explain things, so if it doesn't make sense to you, let me know and I'll come up with a new one- I can't promise it won't be equally as random, but I CAN promise it'll help you understand whatever it is you're asking about.
Don’t let my friendly demeanor undermine the fact that I take my work very seriously- above all I want to help you and provide you with the service and level of professionalism you expect from me. The youngest student I've taught was 6 years old, and the oldest was 45. They were both awesome. I'm flexible and very understanding of last-minute issues that pop up before a lesson- please try to give me at least 3hrs notice. Obviously if something comes up totally last minute, just let me know as soon as you can!
I'm also completely fine with last-minute lesson requests; I just can't promise I'll always say yes. I CAN say that if you're willing to meet online instead of in person, the chances of my saying "yes" increase dramatically because while the last-minute scheduling might be a slight inconvenience, your flexibility in meeting online almost always completely negates that.
Also, if you have an issue with my rate or you wish to schedule group lessons and want an adjusted rate, no problem!! Just let me know and we can discuss this :D
Anyway, I apologize for the long read. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. References can also be provided upon inquiry.
If you are interested in my services I very much look forward to hearing from you, otherwise, I wish you and yours the best of luck in your search for a tutor and hope you get the help and attention you want!

Excellent tutor. She is very patient and has really helped my son improve his grades. I highly recommend Farah!!! She is dependable and her schedule is flexible. We never have a problem booking her.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have counseled my brothers and numerous of their friends on the college app process and choosing a school, as well as what to expect and how to begin preparing for college. I also have counseled on community college vs. a 4-year institution.
Not to mention I went through the college process (application, choosing, etc) by myself, so I know how to get everything done.
I have tutored my friends' children (if reference is needed, I will gladly provide it), as well as having spent 4 years tutoring at a K-8 school through the DC Reads Program.
I have been tutoring elementary level subjects for the last 10 years, including having spent 3 years tutoring at an inner-city elementary school through the DC Reads Program.
Many people have trouble with reading. I remember growing up and just having to deal with the fact that not all words sound the way they look. Had someone told me something other than "that's the way it is" in response to, "What is the point of the silent e?”, I would have had a much easier time with not only my spelling but my reading too. While there are exceptions to spelling/pronunciation rules, providing these rules to students along with explanations, greatly boosts their confidence in reading. The rule they apply may not work for the particular word they are trying to read and understand, but at least they have somewhere to start with sounding it out, instead of staring blankly at the page.
There's no such thing as being "bad at a language". I will make sure to focus specifically on weaker areas and help you transcend your struggles. If you are struggling with grammar, don’t worry, I have an answer for any and every question you could possibly have regarding this. In my experience grammar is the biggest issue for students, as no one ever explained the WHY behind certain grammar rules. I know once I explain these grammar conundrums, I will get that, "Ohhhh!! NOW I get it!” response.
I learned to swim at a local YMCA at age 6, and boy was I glad I did so when my family relocated to Florida. While there I took up swimming as a year-round sport and ended up swimming competitively for the next 10 years or so. I know all the techniques and tricks behind improving your stroke (for the more advanced swimmers), as well as how to stay afloat, breathe, and propel yourself forward (for beginners). I gave swimming lessons to a few beginners last summer, and it went beautifully. It is amazing to see how just a little confidence in the water completely wipes out the innate fear some children have of going swimming. Not to mention, I am trained in CPR and rescue.
I can help with anything from grammar, syntax, organization, idea generation, editing, cohesively getting your ideas down on paper, etc. I also help with college/university essays and have an amazing track record with doing so- several of my students were told their essays were phenomenal by program admins of schools to which they were accepted. I have also had a couple papers published selected for university symposiums. If you wish, I can submit a sample of my writing.
