Mount Marty College
Hello! My name is Renee W. and I would like to offer my skills to help your children review and retain the skills they need to be successful in school.
I have a degree in special and elementary education with endorsements in Junior High Language Arts and social studies. I have taught for six years in a small district in South Dakota, where I did a little of everything K-12. I worked as a substitute in Glynn County, Georgia and have completed the necessary background checks for that district. I intend to apply to substitute in Pinellas County as well.
My specialty is reading and language arts, but I am also comfortable teaching elementary math, science, and social studies.
I am a wife and mother of two, so I know how busy your summer schedules may be. My schedule is fairly flexible, and I am willing to travel within the Palm Harbor Area to meet with you and your kids. I can tutor at your house or mine whichever works best for you.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As a certified special and elementary education teacher, I have taught quite a few students with ADD/ADHD. In my experience, students with ADD/ADHD just need to be redirected and encouraged in a positive manner to stay on task. Also break things down into smaller parts and complete tasks a little at a time. It is also a good idea to limit the distractions around you as much as possible. Sometimes it helps to use a different kind of chair to sit on, like an exercise ball or allow them to stand at their desks if they need to. These are just a few of the methods that I have used when working with students with ADD/ADHD.
Reading is my specialty, and I have taught reading at all levels K-8.
Study Skills is preparing students to be prepared for school. I will teach such things such as preparation for classes, note taking, review and of course studying for tests. I will also touch on organizational skills and listening strategies. I will also touch on reading from text books and preparing for projects.
