I began to study and take an in interest in the Chinese language in high school. While studying for my bachelors degree, I majored in Chinese Studies and spent over a year studying abroad in China. I completed my Masters Degree (Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages) in China at Qingdao University. During the course of my Masters, I interned in a High School in Connecticut, teaching Beginning and Intermediate Chinese to over 20 high school and middle school students. I now am pursuing a PhD at Xiamen University (located in China) for International Relations. Overall, I have spent over 5 years in China, and a combined period of 3 years teaching/tutoring Chinese and English.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have spent over 10 years studying Mandarin Chinese. I lived in China for 5 years, as well as obtaining a Masters Degree in China for Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages. I have taught Chinese classes in a high school setting for 3 months, as well as tutoring/teaching English in China for over 2 years.
