About Joan

Committed, patient and results-oriented tutor

I am a patient, results-oriented tutor, committed to assist, evaluate, motivate, develop and integrate my students in learning. I have two master’s degrees and over 40 years of experience. I am a PMP-certified project manager with over 20 years formal and experiential knowledge of the project management body of knowledge (PMBOK), including certification instruction.

In addition to being a qualified tutor in elementary subjects and study skills, I have 10+ years of experience providing SSAT Prep, PSAT Prep, SAT prep, college counseling and scholarship identification services to supplement existing school programs. Students have seen their SAT improvement results range as high as 400 points and ACT scores by as much as 7. I also raised three college-educated children, all with varying degrees of learning issues, so I am particularly adept at identifying and designing individualized study programs that work.

My rates are: $45 per hour for lessons within a 10-mile radius of the Palm Coast Public Library. Rates for lessons outside this area, group rates and multiple hour sessions are negotiable.

I am very flexible with my availability, days, evenings and weekends.

Although I require at least 24 hours notice of a cancellation, I am happy to accept same-day appointments, should the need arise.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a qualified elementary math, elementary science and spelling tutor. I also have over ten years experience working with elementary students in reading, handwriting and grammar and social studies. In addition, I have an MLS and have been a librarian for forty years and have worked extensively with primary school students on their math and reading skills.

Study Skills

I have over ten years experience working one-on-one with students (elementary thru high school) to develop an array of study skills, including the process of organizing and taking in new information, retaining information, test taking and dealing with continuing assessments. I emphasize effective reading skills and concentration techniques, as well as efficient notetaking. I also incorporate time management techniques that can be easily learned and applied to any fields of study.
