About Tiffany

I have taught many elementary grade levels and tutored students from Pre-K to college level. In addition, I have worked with private, home school, and public school students. I am currently certified in the state of Florida in the subject area of Elementary Education, grades K to 6th. I tutor students in needed subjects, with homework, or in management, testing, and organization skills through small groups and in one-on-one settings. I have obtained extensive training in all areas of reading, including phonics and phonological awareness, and in different areas of writing and math. I specialize in lower elementary grades but enjoy tutoring students at various educational levels and in different subjects. I enjoy learning and willingly share and encourage this with students. Students are supported to ask questions, seek knowledge, and to be fond of learning.

In general, I meet with students and parents at a public location on Monday through Thursday from 9:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M and Friday to Saturday 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Online sessions are available at various times Monday through Sunday, including before, after, and during these hours. I try to meet all students at a time which accommodates their needs; please feel free to ask questions about tutoring or if a specific time is available.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have tutored students in various levels of Algebra 1 and try to keep each step simple and clear. I also encourage students to recognize all of their accomplishments and continue to grow in mathematics.

Common Core

I have used and currently use the Common Core Standards to teach home school students, and I have created worksheets and reference aids in accordance with these standards. I also use the Common Core Standards as a reference and resource to assist students I tutor for enrichment. In addition, I have assisted and tutored students with some math tasks from a Common Core labeled product. Furthermore, I have taught math lessons at a school with such a product. Similarly, many of the schools assign homework relating to the common core standards. I assist students with these assignments and tutor many of the subjects the standards are for. (The standards are grouped by "English Language Arts/Literacy Standards" and "Mathematics Standards" which includes speaking, listening, all areas of reading, various writing, and math up to the twelfth grade.)

Elementary (K-6th)

I hold a Florida Certification for Elementary Education, grades K-6. I have taught and tutored students in math, reading, science, social studies, spelling, writing, and grammar in these grade levels as well as others.

Elementary Math

I have taught math to students in Pre-K to 6th grade at various levels and in different areas of mathematics. I have tutored students at higher levels. My tutoring instruction is adjusted to the individual student's needs.

Elementary Science

I have taught and tutored science at the elementary level, K to 6th grade, for several years. I use different methods in which the students can understand each and every concept. In addition, I assist students in learning how to read their science textbook for comprehension of science information.

Geometry

I have tutored a few students in geometry, and they have all grown academically. I teach students to use their textbook for assistance as well as help them with their math problems.

Grammar

As an elementary teacher and a tutor, I have taught and assisted students at different levels with grammar. I have reviewed and assisted in correcting college level material as well. I enjoy helping students correctly use proper syntax and learning about the different parts of the English language.

Handwriting

I have tutored and taught many students in the skills of handwriting for writing manuscript and cursive letters, words, sentences, paragraphs, and papers. I try to encourage my students to be patient and persistent, while they work. I'm willing to assist with pencil grip, paper position, and forming letters while improving already taught skills or teaching new beginners. It takes plenty of practice, patience, and (most importantly) persistence until it is finally as easy as any other daily task.

Homeschool

I am a certified elementary teacher for grades, K-6th. I have taught in the classroom and tutored numberless students. In addition, I have taught and/or tutored students who attended home schools over the past four years with small groups or as individuals. I have enjoyed teaching all the major, elementary subjects for some students and teaching specific subjects for others through projects, games, crafts, classwork, discussion time, and more. In addition, I have taught middle school pupils in specified fields based on their individual needs. Furthermore, I have worked with pre-k students with a general focus on reading and math while relating other subjects through these activities; and I have provided pupils with enrichment and tutoring in a particular subject(s). Students have also obtained assistance for their personal curriculum or subjects they are already working on at home and with building their portfolios.

Microsoft Windows

I have successfully taken courses and applied Microsoft Windows' operating system on many devices. I try to stay current with the changes applied to this system and fill confident in my ability to teach, explain, and demonstrate the following skills:
• navigating through the system to complete tasks,
• creating, finding, and using files and folders,
• applying common keyboard shortcuts,
• utilizing common computer tasks and applications,
• changing settings, and
• additional, related skills.
In addition, I have and/or do comfortably use many Windows operating systems (including XP, 8, and 10).

Phonics

I have obtained extensive training in phonics and phonemic, or phonological, awareness. I have taught and tutored students in phonics and phonological awareness from Pre-K to 5th grade.

Prealgebra

I have assisted different levels of pre-algebra students. I work with individuals to provide step-by-step practice and review. Students are encouraged to enjoy mathematics and to take pride in their accomplishments and new found understandings.

Reading

As a teacher, I have taught reading to students in Pre-K to 6th grade at various levels and with needs in different areas of reading. My training for reading includes grades K-6th and extensive training in the five areas of reading for grades K-3rd. I have tutored reading students from Pre-K to high school.

Spelling

I find the best way to teach spelling is by using phonemic spelling patterns and word parts. This allows the student to manipulate sounds in order to correctly spell words.

Study Skills

I have found study skills to include techniques and needed methods of study as well as the management or organization of one’s learning. While teaching and tutoring, I assist students in finding an efficient, effective, and easy management system for them to use at home and at school for a smooth transition. They are also taught beneficial study skills adapted to their grade level and personal needs to provide them with a system to further enhance their comprehension and understanding.

Simply the best I ever met — I had Tiffany as a tutor for my 2 boys (12 and 9) over 2 years and for my 5 year old girl over 3 months. Boys started with her with a zero English level. I was amazed with her approach for tutoring of all of the elementary school subjects. Boys studied with her as homeschooling students. They had their classes in the public library 3 hours a day. After the first year we passed the examination meet ...
