Florida Atlantic University (Elementary Education)
Florida Atlantic University (Master's)
I graduated from Florida Atlantic University for both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees. My Bachelor's degree is in elementary education and my Master's degree is in Reading Education. I spent 11 years as a classroom teacher teaching grades 2-5. I have also been teaching at the college level since 2011. At the college level I teach education classes as well as reading prep courses.
I have many years of experience tutoring. I have tutored small group as well as one-on-one. Most of the tutoring positions I have had in the past have been based on reading needs, especially comprehension and vocabulary development. I enjoy the one-on-one interactions that tutoring provides. For me, there is nothing more satisfying than seeing one of my students achieve their academic goals. I love to inspire students to show them how successful they can be.
I am qualified to teach reading, including ACT reading, through my Reading Master's degree.
I have taught grades 2-5 in an elementary setting and have specialized in reading comprehension, writing, vocabulary and study skills. Most of my teaching career was in grades where state testing was a requirement, so I understand how important study skills are to be successful in a testing environment.
I currently work with K-5 teachers in an elementary school on reading instruction. One of our goals for this year is to improve phonics instruction in all grades.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My Bachelor's degree is in Elementary Education grades K-6, including an ESOL endorsement obtained form Florida Atlantic University. My teaching career includes teaching grades 2-5. I have been teaching in an elementary setting since 2003.
My current position is as an elementary reading coach working with grade K-5 teachers. Our primary focus this year is phonics education. I have been researching and learning about best practices in phonics in order to help coach the teachers at my school.
Throughout my eleven years as an elementary school teacher, ten of those years involved teaching in a grade where a state exam, FCAT, was mandated. I was able to provide study skills to students not only for the FCAT but also to college level students who are in reading prep courses. The reading prep course I teach at the college level requires study skills to be learned in order to pass the college entrance exam.
