About Patrick

Hi there! As a Summa Cum Laude graduate, I understand the importance of hard work and applying oneself academically in order to pave the way for future success. While my focus is on education in grades 9-12, my passion for teaching knows no age limit! I personally know the frustrations that can come with struggling in a class, and needing to turn to someone outside the classroom for a different approach. I was lucky enough both in high school, and while working on my Bachelor's degree, to be taught by and work with some of the most passionate and talented educators/mentors that I have ever met. They passed on that enthusiasm to me, and I genuinely believe that any student can succeed in the classroom with the right approach, and the encouragement. By keeping such a positive outlook and approach to education, I feel more than comfortable guiding my students to reach their personal and educational goals.

Over the last few years, I was given the great opportunity to take on a position as a teaching assistant for multiple professors, which enabled me to gain a wide range of first hand experience in the areas of teaching/lecturing; lesson planning, research, and grading. During that time, I made sure to make myself available to all students for tutoring in both private and group sessions, as well as organized study guides to help each student stay on the track to a successful semester. Additionally, I took classes on teaching methodologies, which allowed me to truly understand the best ways to communicate with students and help them target their areas of difficulty.

One of the educators that I shadowed under in my years in high school was my Honors English teacher. She taught me an appreciation for both classic and modern literature that has stuck with me for many years. Among the skills she helped me hone were analysis of themes, an appreciation for the finer points of the English language, and the ability to truly examine works in light of the social, cultural, and historical contexts in which they are written. My experiences with public speaking in academic, professional, and other settings gives me a unique perspective from which I can help your student overcome difficulties with or fears of speaking or reading in the classroom.

Rather than stop at the required 30 hours needed to declare my major in Comparative Religions, I took all that I could, ending up with nearly 70 hours of concentrated study and research. This helped me truly sharpen my understanding of how history, race, religion, gender, etc. all contribute to shape both our daily lives and our broader world. I have also participated on both university and regional panels in my field both as a guest speaker, and to present my own written research.

Please don't hesitate to contact me and see how I can help you and your student feel more confident and get the great grades you know they're capable of!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Religion

My undergraduate degree is focused heavily in Comparative Religions, with approximately 70 credit hours worth of classes being taken in that field. Among those classes were topics of both Eastern and Western Religion(s), the intersectionality of race, gender, sexuality, history, and religion, and independent research designed to produce final written works for publication into academic journals. In addition, in my position as a teaching assistant during my senior year of my BA, I worked in a number of religion classes helping with lesson plans, tutoring, grading, and general lecturing and teaching.
