My name is Cheryl. I am a certified ESE and English Professional teacher in Palm Beach County. I have 10 years experience working with special needs and regular education children. I also have three years experience tutoring college students. One of my specialties is teaching and tutoring children with Learning Disabilities, as well as those with Autism and Asperger's Syndrome. I also work with gifted/talented students.
At this time, I am proud to be in Wyzant's top 1% of tutors, both locally and nationally.
I believe that every child has the capacity to learn, but children learn in different ways. My goal is to fit your child's tutoring to his or her personality, learning style, and individualized learning needs.
I am a former Elementary Education teacher. On the elementary, middle school, and high school levels, I am able to tutor most subjects (see "subjects" list). I also have experience tutoring AP classes. I have also taught AP Psychology, AP Literature & Composition, and AP Composition and Grammar. On a home school basis, I have also taught Honors World History, as well as Honors U.S.History, and even Kindergarten. I also specialize in essay writing and review, both High School and College levels. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Organizational Management from Palm Beach Atlantic University, and am currently finishing up a Master's Degree in Special Education. I am also currently working towards a Master's Degree in English (with a focus on Literary Theory and Literature in general). I have also studied Psychology, and have enough credit hours to make up an associate degree in that field. I have tutored several college students through graduation on the Bachelor's Degree level of Psychology.
Therefore, My tutoring strengths include reading, mathematics, history, social studies, and language arts (including grammar and spelling). I have also tutored many students in college classes, in such widely ranging subjects as Economics, Literature, and Statistics.
NOTE: I also specialize in tutoring students for the GED, and am very knowledgeable about the whole process. I also have proven experience tutoring for the ASVAB, PSAT, and SAT. I have proctored the SAT's for the College Board in the past. I also am open to home school tutoring, and as I have my own tutoring service, I have a very flexible schedule. Just ask. My teaching style is open and communicative, yet firm when needed. I truly care about each student, and work to help them succeed in their schoolwork, and at life. I have also studied counseling.

Math, History and Language ARTS. Taught him to stay focused and work on his time a management. Cheryl has been able to keep his attention and make sure he completes his work and pays attention to what he is suppose to do. Teaching time management to my son.

Cheryl so far is an amazing tutor she is extremely patient and when you don't know something she goes over it with you step by step. Shes extremely nice and makes you feel comfortable as possible. Cheryl is a wonderful teacher! She taught my son how to break down difficult questions. My son walked away from the session with a new understanding of process of elimination. She had really good teaching strategy which he learned and he found that when he applies this strategy he can eliminate answering questions incorrectly.

My daughter is 6 and having trouble with reading and math. I contacted Cheryl and she was very quick to respond and has been working very well with my daughter. She is very patient and accommodating and my daughter has already shown better work in only 2 sessions with her.
Cheryl is a perfect fit, she is kind, soft spoken, and very patient. She encouraged my daughter with praise throughout the session. My daughter has autism spectrum disorder and has a very difficult time making eye contact especially with strangers. From the moment she met Cheryl she had great eye contact and was extremely comfortable with her. That says a lot.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
