I began my professional teaching career in Environmental Education with BOCES in Nassau County, developing curriculum in this new content area and followed this experience with the completion of a Masters in Elementary Education of which was based on the work of Johnson and Johnson's research with Cooperative Learning. As part of my studies at the University of Minnesota for the Special Education licensure, I was trained in Curriculum Based Measurement. I have had the varied experiences of working in a variety of delivery service models, including teaching special education English, Math, Science and Social Skills, and have used Differentiated Instruction.
As part of a military family, having experience with the diverse and bi-lingual (ELL) student communities of Albuquerque Public Schools and Minneapolis, Minnesota, and as a Special Education Teacher and Coordinator, I have been able to lead special education and regular education teams of teachers toward the mutual goal of improving student
learning by teaming on a regular basis and understanding how Professional Learning Communities can make a difference. I have always worked toward developing learning resources for our students, including supervising an afternoon school program.
I hold a Florida Status of Eligibility in Exceptional Students Education, Elementary Education and Principal. I am also Highly Qualified in Math, Language Arts, Social Studies and Science. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
