Grammar can be boring, but it can be learned and it will help the writer to express ideas with clarity and purpose. Esther Neen is a very good tutor. Not only she is patient, but also very helpful. One can tell that she loves her job and is more than willing to help you in your studies.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
The ACT reading section requires an understanding of grammar and other writing skills. The questions test comprehension of the passages, but they also focus on problems in expression that are related to poor sentence structure, weak word choice, wrong punctuation. The reading section also requires students to develop a technique for moving back and forth between the passage and the questions. Many students lose their place then don't have enough time to complete the test. Students can practice this kind of testing arrangement and learn tips for moving forward through the test with the least number of errors.
Scoring well on the SAT writing and reading sections requires the student to have a command of a certain level of vocabulary, to understand the grammar rules of formal writing, and to be able to read passages, on many different topics, that require the ability to analyze the author's purpose, point of view, and literary style and conventions. The student also must be able to understand the implications of these passages for their larger meaning, to think logically and to draw conclusions from the arguments and positions that are presented in these works. The essay questions are difficult; the student is expected to write a response that is well organized, logical, and coherent. The student's ability to support an argument with examples, reasons and explanations is also assessed.
