About Michael

Throughout my academic history I have been known by my teachers and professors as one who performs well in my studies. Whether it's participating in the Connecticut Invention Convention in elementary school, or performing and presenting research in meteorology in college, my teachers have said that I am an above-average student. I like to work slowly and carefully, so I try to avoid working on projects at the last minute. Having enjoyed the math and sciences in high school, I decided to pursue a degree in meteorology.

I graduated from Florida Institute of Technology with a B.S. in meteorology in May 2016. This required many courses in math and science, including calculus, differential equations, and physics. I especially enjoy working through algebra and calculus problems. With academics fresh in my mind, I want to gain some more experience with tutoring. I did private tutoring in Algebra at my house during high school for a few weeks, and again in college for a few weeks (also Algebra). I also took a semester in introductory teaching (science) to elementary students. What I like about tutoring is knowing that my student leaves with a better knowledge and confidence in the subject.

My high school English teacher was an excellent teacher. He went quite in depth with grammar, composition, and literature. All graduates from that high school had better ACT and SAT scores than the other high schools in the area. When tutoring students in English, I use the same Handbook of Grammar & Composition that my teacher used.

I "have been acquainted with the sacred writings," starting with memorization and basic Bible doctrine, eventually leading Bible studies, and continuing today with preaching and listening to various sermons.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I have been learning the Bible since kindergarten when I started the Awana program at my church. The Awana program, which goes from kindergarten to high school, teaches children memorization, basic concepts and doctrine, and general lessons from the Bible that can be applied to life. I went through the entire program, which resulted in my having read the whole Bible and memorized over a hundred verses. In college, I was involved with Intervarsity Christian Fellowship's Bible studies and leadership conferences for four years. Today, I continue to study the Bible, read the Bible, and read about the Bible, sometimes preaching at my church.

Microsoft Windows

I have been working with Microsoft Windows since the days of Windows 98. I used to tinker with the hardware and explore the settings and configuration of the operating system, and continue to do so today with Windows 7. I have also helped various computer technicians at elementary schools with configuration and installation, and since I have built my own computer from the basic components, I have had to work with the BIOS settings. My experience includes virtual memory, virtual drives, installations, system settings, troubleshooting, and other things involving Windows 98, Windows XP, and Windows 7.
