About Amanda

Hello,

My name is Mandy and I have been tutoring in some shape or form for six years now. I began tutoring when I was in ninth grade. I worked with four elementary students, completing homework and throwing in fun games that reinforced the material that they were learning. From there, I worked as a tutor for AmeriCorps Reads which is a program that focuses on bringing elementary students to their accurate reading level based on their grade. I volunteered as a mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters as well as tutored off and on until I moved to the Brevard County area this past January.

The tutoring approach I most like to use is the “helper” approach; I tutor to help study or shed light on what the student has already learned. I am not there to do the student’s work for them or give all the answers. I also like to use the “teamwork” approach. If there is an answer that the student needs but does not know, we work together to research and figure out how to solve the problem at hand. In addition, I like to be flexible and change my methods based on the student’s strengths.

Thank you for taking the time to read a little bit more about me. I look forward to working with you!

Mandy

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I not only grew up in church, but the Bible was always a central part to my schooling even in college. I have my minor in Bible as well as awards demonstrating my knowledge in this subject. In addition, I read my Bible on a regular basis and study various documentaries concerning Biblical topics. I will be able to guide students as far as which topics make for the best papers and how to research these chosen topics.
