I have a current Minnesota teaching license in elementary education, with an emphasis in middle school math (B.S. Elem. Ed., M.S. Ed). My teaching experience covers grades 6 – 8 in math, science, language arts, and reading. Known for having a relaxing, stress free classroom with a caring approach to my teaching, I also have over 13 years of tutoring experience.
I enjoy helping students make sense of things, and leading them toward achieving that “ah-ha” moment. I have found that many students that are in need of tutoring, tend to be more of either a visual learner or a kinesthetic learner. These styles of learning can be challenging to meet in a large classroom setting with strict time limits, which is why tutoring can be so beneficial. Students need to have a strong understanding of their current subjects or those problematic areas will lead to more learning challenges as they are advanced in those subjects. Before a student can be successful in their future classes, they need to be successful in their current classes.
My teaching experience covers: 8 years as a 6th, 7th, and 8th math teacher with a focus on basic math, pre algebra, algebra, geometry, probability, measurement, patterning, etc., with 2 of those years as a math specialist with the responsibility of helping students pass state mandated mathematics tests; 3 years as a 6th grade language arts/reading teacher focusing on skills in grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, fluency, spelling, and writing; and 2 years as a 7th grade life science, and 8th grade earth science teacher.
While my 13 years of tutoring experience is with mostly middle school age students (grades 6-8), I really do enjoy helping all ages of students gain a solid understanding of their subjects, and watching their self-esteem increase as they begin to understand and master concepts that they have been struggling to understand.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
