Virginia Tech (Mathematics)
I graduated from Virginia Tech with a BS in Mathematics in 2008 and I have 3 years professional experience tutoring a student in all subject areas. My current student was labeled with learning disabilities in school, but while I worked with her she went from a 6th grade math level to a 12th grade math level in less than two years. In addition to my professional experience, I have always volunteered to help classmates, peers, and younger students with their math assignments. In all my jobs, I have discovered that I relate well to people of all ages and can easily explain complex information in simple, understandable terms. I met with Jennifer to help prepare myself for the math portion of the SAT. We went through problems together that I had trouble with and she showed me easy ways to solve them. She also gave me additional information to take home and work on to help prepare. The information was extremely helpful. I would highly recommend her as a tutor for any level of math as she is very knowledgeable in the subject.
Jennifer has been wonderful tutoring our 13 year old daughter in Algebra 1. She is very patient and good at communicating concepts. She makes sure my daughter understands the concepts and not just the steps. I would recommend Jennifer!
Jennifer had so much patience with my daughter and was able to complete all her work. I am so thankful for the experience she brought. She is an asset to this profession.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
