I was 12 years old when I started to learn French in Izmir, a major city on the Aegean coast of Turkey. The teaching language of my middle and high schools (established and supervised by the French government) was French. Additionally, I developed a habit of reading French classics. After graduating from high school, I went to receive a B.A. in Philosophy in Istanbul. At college, I continued to take French Literature and French Translation/Interpreting classes and I earned top grades. Thanks to this intense and systematic exposure to French at an early age, I have the accent of a native French speaker. In addition to being fluent in French, I speak English and Spanish. I am a native speaker of Turkish. I am tutoring Turkish as well.
Learning new languages has enriched my emotional and intellectual world and taught me new ways of making sense of the beauties of the world. I love to tutor because I love to share my passion for languages; I love to see the joy in the eyes of my students when I can make them enjoy what I enjoy the most, to let them see what a new language can bring to their lives in many respects. I am the mother of a 6 years old boy, and a 3 years old boy. They are bilingual by birth and they are enjoying learning new words everyday. I am especially interested in working with kids of any age, due to my experience both as a child and now as a mother with bilingualism and multilingualism. I also love to have group sessions with kids, learning French with songs, games and story times. I look forward to working with you! Nazli is a very patient and helpful tutor. She encourages and tailors the lesson to the student's needs. We have only had one lesson so far, but it was productive. She came with materials for me to take home and practice. She is clearly experienced and motivated to help students with expanding their Turkish language skills.
I have been very fortunate to have an opportunity to take classes from Nazli. She is a true professional integrating a variety of accurately structured teaching techniques, providing a supportive environment that helps students gain confidence throughout the learning process. Nazli’s pedagogical approaches encourage continuous engagement, allowing me to brainstorm and recognize key aspects of grammatical and lexical structures. Nazli is a patient, organized, dedicated, confident, creative and extremely knowledgeable master of her subject, possessing wonderful personality combined with integrity and authenticity. I look forward to continuing my language learning with Nazli!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a native of Turkey, I studied philosophy and public relations in Istanbul, Turkey; both as as a student and while working in public relations, I worked as a Turkish tutor for foreigners residing in Istanbul, Turkey. I moved to Chicago in 2005 with my husband while he undertook an assistant professor assignment at Loyola University, Chicago; during that transition period, I found my Turkish tutoring skills and experience valuable for those who want to learn Turkish for business, travel or study reasons. I have been tutoring Turkish since then especially for those with research, business, or travel purposes. My classes can be defined as "Elementary Turkish with a native speaker of Turkish": The class is based on detailed grammar explanations with examples based on everyday speech; contemporary dialogues and vocabulary will be used to support the learning process, starting with the easiest grammar, allowing a smooth passage to harder grammatical elements. Observing the practical usage of daily Turkish will allow students to discover a smoother way to learn more complex grammatical structures. With over 12+ years of experience in tutoring Turkish, this curriculum allows students to learn to speak and understand Turkish at an everyday level; the students will use what they have previously learned during each class allowing them to discover a more fun and satisfying learning experience. All materials chosen include highly used idioms, words, expressions and grammatical structures. A fun practice of pronunciation and an emphasis on the multicultural aspect of the language constitute the distinctive feature of this class.
