I recently got certified through Wyzant for their online tutoring program. I am now able to tutor not only in person, but also remotely via online tutoring. I have a degree in English with a concentration in creative writing from the University of Central Florida (UCF). I also have 10-1/2 years of paid experience in the magazine publishing industry, with a concentration in research, proofing, fact checking, punctuation and copy editing. I helped train copy editors who were new to the magazine publishing department. I also have volunteer experience in helping masters students from other countries at UCF with proofing/copy editing their papers and helping them with conversational English. For more than 5 years, I have tutored students of all ages. I enjoy helping students reach academic goals and learn new skills. When a student I'm tutoring grasps a concept and it makes sense to them, I get a lot of joy from being a part of that! Even though I am finished with my schooling, I see life as a life-long learning experience, and that's what I hope to impart to each of my students!

While studying for a degree in English at the University of Central Florida I had the opportunity to volunteer as an English conversation partner for students from different countries. What a rewarding experience it was! I so enjoy learning about different cultures and helping people from other countries learn about U.S. culture. I also assisted some of the students who were studying for their masters' degrees with proofing/editing their college paper. More recently, I have been tutoring several elementary-age students in English conversation and grammar as their dad is in Florida for a year as a guest lecturer at a local university. We make crafts together, play vocabulary games, word games, computer games, talk about places they have been, cook together--any activity that helps them not only hear proper use of English, but to use the language as well in everyday ways. Through reading, writing, conversation, using auditory/visual methods, I feel each student will have the best exposure to the English language, and, hence, be better able to use the language.

When I was a student in high school and in college, I quickly realized that to balance all the courses I was taking I would have to come up with a system to help me juggle it all. Whether it was taking detailed notes in my classes, using highlighting to emphasize importance of material or keeping a calendar with the important due dates for all my classes, I found that organization and paying attention to detail was a large part of maintaining good grades. I encourage my students to borrow some of my study strategies at first, but ultimately, every student is different, so their study styles will be different. My job is to help them find a system that will ultimately work for them and be the foundation of good study habits and successful learning.

This tutor gets SAT results!

She tutored my son in writing and reading for the SAT. He had a 180 point increase the second time he took this test, including a 70 point increase in writing and an 80 point increase in reading. It did take some effort on his part to complete the practice assignments that she gave him, but it was well worth it. Great tutor!

Great tutor.

Loretta helped me write my admissions essay for graduate school. She was able to help me brainstorm many ideas and structure my paper just perfectly. She is very knowledgeable and helped me think of angles for my paper that gave it a compelling story. Loretta did not just help me write my essay, but she also helped improve my writing skills overall. She is also very good about replying back to emails/texts in a timely manner.

Very willing to help and connects well with the student

Lorie has been doing a great job with helping out my son. He was struggling quite a bit with reading comprehension and failing several reading tests. I'll also add that he didn't have much of a study habit when it came to reading. Since Lorie has become involved his grades in reading have increased greatly and he actually dedicates time to reading and utilizing the study habits Lorie has taught him. We have only been with her for a short perios but the payoff seems to be well worth it to date. I'm looking forward to the continued training and better grades!

A perfect fit for my child

Loretta is a patient and thorough teacher. She was always developing new ideas and ways to help my daughter understand the subject on hand, weather it was math or English. I would strongly advise any parent to use her.
