About Katherine

Hello, my name is Katherine. I am a certified educational Sign Language interpreter at Orange County Public Schools. I work with Deaf and hard of hearing students ranging from elementary to middle school on a daily basis to help them acquire an equal learning opportunity. Subjects that I have interpreted include, reading, math, science, social studies, art, physics, chemistry, pre-algebra, algebra I and II. I have also been teaching a Sign Language course at the school I work at to students who may be interested to learn American Sign Language.

The Deaf and hard of hearing students I interpret for inspired me to start teaching ASL to others. For that very reason, I decided to help spread the language. Whether I am interpreting or teaching, my goal is always to get my students to reach their highest potential.

I have 5 years of experience with American Sign Language. I have my Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) Certification. I am fluent in Spanish and would be able to teach American Sign Language to anyone who speaks fluent Spanish. I currently have lesson plans for all ASL levels.

I absolutely love my career. When I teach and interpret Sign Language I do so with devotion. Whether you are a beginner looking to start learning ASL or you are at an intermediate level and would like to focus in a specific area I will be able to personalize lesson plans that would best fit you.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Sign Language

I have taken the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) and became certified. I currently work for Orange County Public Schools as a sign language interpreter. At my job interview, two certified interpreters were present to make sure I was qualified for the job. I have five years experience with ASL and have been an educational interpreter for two years.
