Matthew M. is a student at the University of Central Florida, pursuing a Bachelor of Music Education. Matthew’s musical experience began at age 7, as a piano student of the Rollins College Community School of Music. Matthew then started percussion at age 10. At UCF, Matthew is studying percussion with Dr. Thad Anderson, Kirk Gay, and Jeff Moore and is currently a member of the Percussion Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, and Steel Band.
Matthew holds professional memberships with FMEA, FBA, NAFME, and PAS. Matthew has attended many professional development conferences, including the Florida Music Educators Association Conference, The Midwest Clinic, and The Percussive Arts Society International Convention. Matthew is an avid freelance percussionist and educator in the Orlando area. Matthew’s performance credentials include The Midwest Clinic, Florida Music Educators Association, UCF Symphony Orchestra, UCF Wind Ensemble, and various musical theater productions in the Orlando Area. Matthew is also a member of Southern Winds Wind Symphony. As an educator, Matthew is currently on staff at Freedom High School, Bridgewater Middle School, and teaches privately in the Orlando area. Matthew is also an avid composer and arranger.
Matthew has many arrangements and compositions for percussion ensemble, wind ensemble, and orchestra. Matthew is currently completing a music education degree, which requires 4 semesters of ear training and music theory. Matthew is taking tech classes to be proficient at all woodwind, brass, and string instruments, while also taking private percussion lessons at the collegiate level.

He has a tailored curriculum for weekly lessons, or plenty of materials for just one lesson, etc. Whether you want one session or many, he has whatever it takes for your student to succeed. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music Education at The University of Central Florida. I am learning to be proficient on all instruments, although I have my primary lessons on Percussion and Piano. I have taken classes on music production, 4 semesters of theory and sight singing, music composition, vocal lessons, etc. I started piano at age 7, and percussion at age 9. I plan to pursue my education through my doctorate.
