About Ann

I have always had a lifelong relationship with teaching. I think that it stems from a love of wanting to know more, and about how things work, and why people do the things that they do. I listen, I learn, and if I don't know something I will figure it out. I love to share my passion with others which is why I have been in education in some form or another for 16+ years. Most of those years have been in the ESE community working with students ranging from mild CP to High Functioning end of ASD. I get along with, and work well with all ages and have a vast knowledge of elementary education including American History, Reading, Math, Social Studies, Writing, Language Arts, and Humanities.

I hold a Bachelors degree in Humanities (graduated Cum Laude), and a current teachers certificate in the state of Florida in ESE and Elementary Education. As a hobby I also love running and nutrition and was a phys ed teacher for a couple of years. Many of my travels have furthered my love of education and has been integral in my own learning about being a global citizen as well. I am always on the lookout for the next challenge and look forward to what I can learn from it. Students hold a special place in my own education as they have just as much to teach me.

As the editor and chief of 2 school newspapers, I helped students write stories without losing their own voice. I have proficient knowledge of grammar, and language arts to help students achieve their writing goals, whether it be writing a basic 5 paragraph essay, or a short creative story.

I taught American History for three years using the We The People Curriculum for 5th grade. I use the presidents and the key events and stories of their presidencies to engage and immerse students into our unique and fast paced historical timeline.

I was the 5th-6th grade teacher at The Paragon School, located in Orlando, FL. I taught there for 6 years. It is a private school for students on the high functioning end of the ASD spectrum. With this qualification also comes helping with executive functioning skills.

If you are looking for someone who will work with you at your level, pace, and who will find interesting ways to teach you in a way that won't be "over your head" then look no further.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Aspergers

I am certified by the state of Florida in ESE k-12. I have 6 years of teaching experience at a private school in Orlando as the 5th and 6th grade teacher. My classroom consisted of 12 students diagnosed on the ASD spectrum and high functioning.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am currently certified with a teachers certificate in k-6 and ESE k-12. I taught 5th 6th grade for 6 years at a local private school for kids on the high functioning end of ASD.

Study Skills

As a teacher who has worked with students with Aspergers, and Autism, as well as learning disabilities, executive functioning is often part of their curriculum. I help students manage their time, learn to organize backpacks, life skills lists, prioritize their homework and class work as well as school binders. How students learn best will determine how they study best.

Awesome, Knowledgeable tutor

Ann taught me how to write a winning scholarship, and she did an excellent job with critiquing my wring, grammar and word choices for my essay. This is the second time, I needed help from Ann, and she was able to provide me with the help that I needed to write a successful scholarship that helped me get a twenty-five hundred dollar scholarship for school. Two thumbs up to Ann, she is awesome.
