About Jennifer

Throughout my schooling, I have always had a love of teaching and helping others. I graduated Cum Laude in 2008 from Rollins College, with my BA in Theatre Performance with a 3.7 GPA. I was also on Dean's and President's List throughout my schooling. At Rollins, I realized I wanted to further my education by obtaining my Master's and my professors instilled in me the importance of being someone who was passionate about the subjects they were to teach.

I received my MA in Shakespeare and Creativity from The Shakespeare Institute in Stratford-upon-Avon, UK. My focus is on Shakespeare: delving in to his works, the text, and performance. I have knowledge of the Early Modern Period as well. I have written plenty of essays to help students in terms of content, writing style, MLA, and editing.

I have a BA in Theatre Performance and has worked extensively as a professional Actor in Florida, Washington D.C, Virginia, Germany, and in the UK. I have studied both Classical and Contemporary Theater and I have knowledge of TV/Film. I have studied Classical Acting from LAMDA in London and I have my Masters in Shakespeare and Creativity from The Shakespeare Institute. The opportunity to perform in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival appeared when I was 14 and then again this past summer in 2015. I have also performed at the Royal Shakesepare Company with a 30 minute devised Shakespeare piece.

In the acting world, you are always teaching and learning from those around you. When I moved on to my Masters in the UK, I really fell in love with teaching and my professors taught me how fun learning can be when you focus and work hard. What is academia if you don't have a little bit of laughter?

I specialize in tutoring English Literature specifically Shakespeare and Jacobean playwrights. I am a believer that Shakespeare is easy to understand when you really begin to dig deeper into the text. I also enjoy helping others to become better writers, focusing on proofreading papers and giving detailed feedback.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

With my MA in Shakespeare, I feel I am highly qualified to teach Literature. I have a vast knowledge of different kinds of literature besides Shakespeare. I have read and taught both American and British Literature, which includes but is not limited to Catcher in the Rye, Lord of the Flies, Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, The Grapes of Wrath, Brave New World, etc.

I have my MA in Shakespeare and have spent many a long evening writing academic papers. I have edited my own papers, as well as fellow students, while I was working on my degree. Recently, I was put in charge of editing and grading papers for college freshman at my Alma Mater.

Public Speaking

As an actor, I am incredibly confident in speaking in front of a large audience. I know how to project and have useful tips to help students gain confidence in speaking in front of others. I have had to give several presentations throughout my academic career, most recently, giving a presentation to other Graduate students about Shakespearean performance. Alongside the speech, was a PowerPoint presentation, to give the audience visuals as a point of reference. Public Speaking should be about getting your point across in a concise and effective manner, that does not confuse the audience.

I am able to tutor students in reading of all ages. I am patient and encouraging when it comes to reading. I am happy to assist in everything from reading comprehension to reading aloud. I am happy to offer feedback and help the student understand what they are reading, while doing it at their own pace.

I have been training to be an actor since the age of 10. I went to a Performing Arts High School and then went on to major in Theatre Performance from Rollins College. After graduating I moved to Washington, D.C., where I worked as a professional actor for 5 years. I have performed in Florida, D.C, Virginia, Germany, and the UK. I even spent time delving into Shakespearean acting when I moved to the UK for my MA in Shakespeare and Creativity. I now work professionally as an actor and am employed by Universal Studios Florida, working in Entertainment. I have a vast knowledge of Theatre and Performance History, Classical and Contemporary Playwrights, and the Early Modern Period. Shakespeare is now my main area of expertise and I am qualified to teach his Works. I like to delve into text work, helping students to understand Shakespeare's verse and the plays subject matter.

I am happy to tutor all the way from Elementary to Adult to help those who need to improve their vocabulary skills. I can assist with homework issues and give notes on how to improve. I like to make sure that the student feels comfortable before moving on in their skill level.

Voice (Music)

With more than ten years of Voice training, my skills are in Musical Theatre and Opera. I performed in many musicals in High School and College. Some of which include West Side Story, Les Miserables, A Day in Hollywood A Night in the Ukraine, Annie Get Your Gun, and Gypsy to name a few. During college I spent five weeks in Oberaudorf Germany studying with Musik Theatre Bavaria, learning German Lied, Musical Theatre, and Opera. Personally, I am a Soprano 1.

While in graduate school I had to spend much of my time writing. Most of our papers had to be anywhere from 2,000 to 4,000 words in length and follow a Citation format, such as MLA or Harvard. I am proficient in MLA and have experience in both Footnotes and Endnotes.
