About Melonie

Growing up, I have always been an honors student. In high school, I was enrolled in the International Baccalaureate (IB) program. During this time, I realized my best subjects were history and psychology. I graduated with my IB diploma and over 30 college credits. This gave me sophomore status upon entering UCF. While working on my Bachelors of Science in Psychology, I decided to pursue my other interest, Political Science. As such, I graduated with a cum laude distinction in two degrees. My four years in college taught me that I had a strong interest in research and advising. I was accepted into Vanderbilt University's Psychological Sciences doctoral program. For the next 6 years, I spent time researching issues involved memory and neuroscience while also advising multiple undergraduates in the college. After graduating with my PhD, I went on to work as an Academic Adviser for two years. My primary duties included class planning, career discussions, and establishing academic and personal goals for first-year students. This past August, I took a position as a Professor of Psychological Sciences at Valencia College. I thoroughly enjoying teaching new and incoming students but I am also trying to find a way to continue helping others outside of this capacity.

I have a PhD in Psychology and have been studying the subject for over 15 years.

History has always been one of my favorite subjects. I scored high on my IB History exams and my interest in the subject is what prompted me to obtain a BA in Political Science.

I am knowledgeable and passionate about what I do.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Political Science

I have a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Central Florida.

Social Studies

I have taken college level classes in psychology, political science, history, philosophy, economics, legal studies, and geography. Additionally, I worked in a law firm for 3 years as a paralegal to help pay for college; thus, I also have experience in jurisprudence.

I have a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and I have a Bachelor of Science and a PhD in Psychology.

I currently work as a psychology professor at Valencia College in the department of behavioral & social sciences. I work closely with faculty in all departments including: sociology, anthropology, and political science.
