Hi, I'm Alissa G., M.A. Spanish, and I help students and professionals (high school, college, graduate, and adult) achieve their goals in Spanish language, English Language Arts, and Writing. I am patient, detailed, and passionate about all aspects of English and Spanish languages!

ENGLISH: I love to provide high-quality proofreading and editing services for writing of any style or discipline (academic, literary, business, etc.). My goal is to help you make your writing clear, concise, and effective! My experience does include working with international/ESL clients. I generally edit at a rate of 6+ pages per hour, so you can estimate how long it will take me to work on your piece (subject to change, depending on essay content).

SPANISH: I have a Master of Arts in Spanish and studied abroad in Madrid, Spain. I have always loved the Spanish language because of my desire to learn more about my maternal family's Cuban and Spanish ancestry. Because I wasn't raised bilingual, I had learn Spanish by studying for many years. I think the fact that Spanish is my second language is actually a benefit to my students, because I can relate to their journey to second language acquisition. I am fascinated by language and constantly curious to learn more!

I have experience tutoring high school and college students. My Spanish students have included advanced levels such as Honors, IB Spanish, AP Spanish, and graduate level Spanish writing.

When it comes to my tutoring methods, I am casual, relatable, and informal. My personality type is more introverted than extroverted, so I work well one-on-one and enjoy getting to know my students individually. This helps me adapt our sessions to their unique needs. I typically use students' materials for our sessions, and occasionally bring other materials if needed/requested.

Thanks for taking a look at my profile. I look forward to working with you or your child!

Alissa is a great Spanish Tutor. She helped my daughters on their Spanish AP tests. She patiently answered questions they had, went through multiple choices questions, and helped them practice their speaking and listening in Spanish. I appreciate her help.

Very helpful and patient teacher

I was looking for a tutor that could help me skip a grade of high school Spanish and Alissa gave me all the help I needed. If you're taking Spanish in school or just want help while learning independently, I would highly recommend meeting with Alissa. She clearly explained all the things I didn't understand and was very patient anytime I had a question. Even when dealing with topics like the past perfect subjunctive Alissa made it so much clearer and simple to understand.

Andrew, 9 lessons with Alissa

Alissa is a tutor for my daughter Spanish class.

This is the second time we have used Alissa. My daughter truly appreciates her help. She has five stars all the way. This doesn't seem like a big deal but she's always punctual which is not always the case with some tutors. She communicates well with my 13-year-old and we will use her whenever we need a tutor in the future.

Experienced and friendly tutor.

Alissa helped me practice my Spanish as I prepared for the IB exam. It was very helpful to have someone who was friendly, knowledgeable, and patient work with me as a I studied. With her help, I was able to increase my Spanish vocabulary, grammar knowledge, and conversational skills, which allowed me to be fully prepared going into the exam.

Tutor responded:

Thanks for your review! You've been a pleasure to work with. I'm happy I could support you in preparing for the IB Spanish exam!

Knowledgable, result-driven and caring tutor

I am so happy to have found Alissa on Wyzant. My daughter is the quiet and shy kind and I was worried about how would virtual tutoring work out. It has worked out quite well. Her grades have improved and she is more confident about her AP exam. I am sure this is because Alissa is such a personable, resourceful and caring tutor. Not only does she understands the subject matter but also understands the needs of individual kids. She put in the effort to understand the areas of weakness for my daughter and created a plan for her. This has worked out very well for my daughter. More importantly, Alissa takes personal interest and pride in the success of her tutees, and really cares for their success.

Patient and detailed tutor.

I have been working with Alissa for a couple of months now and our tutoring sessions have been imperative in making me feel more confident with my Spanish. She clearly explains grammar, proofreads my writing, and patiently helps me with my comprehension. It is really useful to have an extra hour of just talking in Spanish, especially because I am learning from home so I don't get as much speaking practice. She is also very quick to respond to messages and accommodating.

Rosemary, 24 lessons with Alissa
Tutor responded:

¡Muchas gracias, Rosemary! It's been a pleasure watching you grow in your Spanish language skills in preparation for your AP Spanish exam.

Very patient and very nice tutor

Alissa helped me with my Spanish speaking skills and was engaging, patiently corrected me, and thoroughly explained my mistakes and interesting facts about the language.
